I'm still stuck on "... hit me in my driveway". Sounds like DMV (District-Maryland-Virginia) region type stuff. It's hard to believe there's worse driving anywhere else. I wonder how much GEICO will charge for full coverage. I shudder to think!

If they really are going to send you a check for over $21K I would pocket the check and live with the damage. I could certainly live with that level of ugly for $20K.

Ugh, State Farm is just painful to deal with.

I have State Farm and they still haven't fully approved the rates for a repair place I picked to repair my Winnebago Revel after it got hit while I was legally street parked in Portland.

The accident happened back in May, and the person who hit my van took off, and the video I have of it doesn't show the license plate.

State Farm is pushing back on the RV labor rates despite that I have the Van insured as an RV.

The worst part is its like 4-5 days wait for a response.

We have such bad drivers, and distracted or under the influence drivers that we should be driving bumper cars instead of nice things like the Rivian.

With my Van State farm didn't even look at the quote I got from a repair place.

Instead they did their own estimate using the pictures I uploaded with their app, and their estimate was half as much as the repair place estimated.

Then they sent me the check for the half amount without even giving me a chance to challenge it.

They said they'd send additional checks on an approved basis.

I ended up handing over the checks directly to the repair place and by the time I did I had 3 checks. I still didn't have the amount the repair place estimated.

I could have just kept the checks, but then the repair place would have been really irked since all the hassle they went through in trying to deal with State Farm before they even had the vehicle.

A few weeks ago I backed into someone parked behind me while rushing to get merged onto a city street. All it did was dent the bumper and the tailgate a little bit, but both need replacement. Total bill was just shy of 5000$ for just the tailgate and plastic bumper piece, plus a few adjustments to some brackets.

This is not a cheap vehicle to repair.

Also, I went with Rivian insurance via Nationwide. It's been 100% painless. They let me pick my shop (only 2 in the area in the Rivian network). They did all the comms and negotiation directly with the shop, and ultimately approved my claim with no hassles for the amount the shop wanted for the repairs. Could not have been more simple and painless.

Really sorry to hear that. I do have some questions if you don’t mind. Sorry if it’s already covered.

How did they manage to hit you in your driveway?

did Rivian deem your truck safe to drive? If so how did they determine that?
Neighbor was backing out of his driveway and was trying to avoid hitting garbage and recycling bins, he said he thought he had enough space and backed right into the corner. I dont think he checked the other side when he was backing up.

as far as Rivian, they didnt say anything about it being safe or not safe to drive. the only component near the area hit would be the air compressor they said and the hit wasnt deep enough to get close to it.

$18-19k for labor? How many MONTHS do they think it will take them for that kind of bill?
They said 2 weeks wait on for parts and about 2-3 to the repair

That works out to be about 120 hours of labor, or (15) 8 hour work days If their rate is $150/hr. Yikes.
wow, you work for insurance or a body shop? thats about what the quote had on it.

I'm only surprised that people are shocked by the cost. As soon as I saw the dent I guessed at least $15k to do it properly.

You can thank the gear tunnel for the higher cost.

If it was a traditional truck bed you'd have the ability to just use a new bed side panel, but with the Rivian the whole side of the truck is one giant piece.

I have geico and pay $ 180 a month in south FL, Miami-Dade county to be exact. Rivian's insurance is a bit more, and i wanted to go with it, but they advised me to wait maybe a year as Nationwide has relatively no customers in south FL and thats why they arent as competitive down here yet.

OP.. have you confirmed that the shop will replacing the whole side panel? That seems like much more work, welding aluminum, and with potential for other problems (like breaking the super fragile glass roof, etc.).
My guess would be, yes.. they will order the full panel.. but do a partial replacement maybe cutting it off over the gear tunnel?

Ultimately i think Rivian had a choice, easier and faster manufacturing or easier repairability. I think they chose right as they are in the ramping phase, i would think maybe by some time next year they make the adjustments to the panel construction to ease and cheapen the repairability of the vehicles.

I have not confirmed exactly what the plan is, I was told by person who i was dealing with (he is the only guy there who deals with Rivians) that this would be the third one they have done the same repair on and he showed me one that had just came back from detailing. I gotta say it looked like it had just come off the assembly line, nothing on it looked off, if they replaced the whole side like he claimed, the work was impeccable.

This thread is a strong recommendation for Rivian insurance. I like USAA but wouldnt want to fight a battle over a $22,000 rear corner dent or find my insurance double on year 2 because of these repair costs.
