I am a November 2018 reservation holder and recently totaled my Model X, so I am without a car (first time since the Army many moons ago).

I am curious who else is a 2018 R1S reservation holder that has not yet taken delivery?

I spent many years in production and logistics and their batching process confuses me (much later reservations getting delivery with the same configuation in the same area, while old timers patiently wait).

So, who else is a 2018 R1S old timer patiently waiting? Below are some of the names and details I have come across in the forum.

They aren't making R1S with Forest Edge or Ocean Coast interior yet, so it's a guarantee if you have those selected, you'll keep waiting.

Likewise if you have Adventure Trim selected, they aren't shipping those yet, only Launch Edition.

The Launch Green (therefore guaranteed to be Launch Edition) with Black Mountain in major delivery locations (San Francisco for example) are surprising.

The interior color batching delay makes sense. However, within the Black Mountain interior color group, I get confused. According to the delivery information available for the R1T and R1S, they are shipping cars to most of the areas listed above for the 2018 reservation holders as well as the exterior colors indicated.

So why are 2018 reservation holders left behind while 2020 reservation holders drive their R1S?

You can add me there. 11/27/2018 LG/BM/20AT SF Bay Area but I think I'm getting close. VIN assigned, on train for 2 weeks apparently from Normal... It's been tough admittedly b/c I've now seen 3 other non-employee R1S owners here in the past few weeks. I had a chance to talk briefly (shouting through window) with them and 2 ordered in 2020....a full two years after with identical specs. Who knows...it could have been employees just messing with me :) but it made me question the order timing and delivery priority. It's all good, I'll just be happy when the car arrives. They looked amazing in person.

Congrats on the upcoming delivery. I am envious.

Thanks! I'm not holding my breath b/c I was also told in April 2021 and November 2021 that "my R1S [was] on the line and visible as we speak!" when chatting with customer service back then about the original non-delayed windows.... They obviously were not informed about the actual production timing or the delay email that Rivian HQ sent out the following day. lol I feel for those poor CS reps and guides, they get almost zero heads up regarding major announcements or delays. I'm giving it a 50% chance that my vin suddenly changes and actual delivery is delayed due to some pre-delivery inspection failure. Hopefully vehicle holds up and no major issues, it's been a long wait for us '18'ers!

I think one thing people could be missing is the number of orders around each service center. I’m sure they are trying to balance the distribution to keep all SCs busy, if there are fewer orders in some areas then the later preorders will be called on. There is also vehicles that may be passed on at the last minute and they need to find someone in that area as they do not want to ship it somewhere else.

That does not cover all scenarios, there clearly is an issue with the order dates not weighted high enough in the distribution algorithms, I just wanted to call out that some of it makes sense.

It certainly would be helpful if there was more clarity in the process, maybe we will have that at the end of this month. Not that I’m overly optimistic for that based on the size of the windows that TC described in his REDDIT AMA the other day. Sounds like it will be pretty much as broad as what was shared last June just reflected in your account with some undefined window for updates.

Update to this thread - my 8 steps unlocked on Sept. 30 and my R1S is apparently in route. Neither my Guide nor CS could say exactly when the R1S will arrive in Costa Mesa. Hoping mine quickly passes all the inspections once it arrives and that I might be able to take delivery before Thanksgiving. It has been a long wait for sure.

Might be useful to add VIN# to form.

I ordered mine on 12/3/2018. Rivian Blue, Black Mountain. I’m in Los Angeles, CA.

I’ve got a got guide so far, but that’s pretty much it. Still waiting for more info, which Rivian said they’ll provide by the end of the month… hopefully.

Ummm ... No one told you that in 2020. The online configurator wasn't even available until 16 Nov 2020, and that was the absolute earliest you could have specified a model (R1T vs R1S), color, options, LE/Adventure/Explore, etc. We didn't even *know* what all those choices were until the preview of the configurator, one day before it opened up. No one at that time was saying deliveries were starting immediately - in fact I believe at that time they were saying the first *R1T* were intended to ship in June 2021, with the R1S to follow 4-6 months later.

False information like this undermines the valid complaints about delivery timing and order of deliveries.

Sigh. Add me to the list.
ordered 11/2018.
LE/Limestone/OC/22” black wheels
Assigned a guide. Signed the PBA. Was supposed to be March delivery. That came and went.
was told about the OC delay. So i begrudgingly switched to BM because we need a 7 seater car again.
June 11th emails came out and I didn’t get one.
Asked my guide. Scripted answer.
Finally got an email later in June with the “first half of 2023” email. That is when I lost it.
How does one go from being one of the FIRST delivery windows to falling behind people who placed orders 2 years after me?
Just frustrating.

That is infuriating. Have they provided any explanation as to why you were bumped?

I’m a 2020 reservation holder and would expect 100% of you 2018’ers to take delivery prior to me. I was told in June, mine would come Oct-Dec. We’ll see…
