I am wondering why just that piece?

They have a version that's all plastic and no wood. Frankly I don't think Munro is giving them this type of feedback. If he is, Rivian should save some more money and fire them.
Yeah, consider the source - Munro thinks the inside and manufacturing of the Tesla model 3 and Y are absolutely fantastic. Every time I get in my Model Y I am reminded of my first car - a 1979 Dodge Colt which was so stripped it only had AM radio and no A/C. So, IMHO Munro's opinion is bunk. They need to make the changes underneath not on the surface. Bad move by Rivian IMNSHO.

disappointing on a vehicle that is pushing six figures in cost. what does this save, a $1.50 / vehicle?

ugh ?. When we took our 1st drive months ago first thing the back passengers pointed out, “wow what a nice wood accent.” RJ said the factory is closing in January a few days for some retooling, wouldn’t be surprised to find some more significant changes for 2023 builds.

Can someone take a better picture of what the current one looks like? To be honest, if it gets vehicles out sooner and saves them some money, this seems like a pretty small alteration.

WTF, seriously?

sell us the vehicle you advertised and we put $1000 to reserve. you can take out the camp speaker, which is totally useless 99% of the time i'll be using the vehicle and in my opinion was gimmicky anyway, to save costs. that should save you at least $75 per vehicle.
Careful what you ask for

We all signed up for an adventure vehicle that was portrayed with certain trim, behaviors and accessories. Those vehicles were then given to reviewers to provide feedback and build a fan base.

Yes the agreement says they can change the product. In essence you are not reserving a spec that rivian commits to build, or for that matter a place in line to receive it (or even the price of the vehicle). It feels more like you reserved an idea with no commitment to deliver on the original concept.

Moving the goalpost on vehicle spec and available accessories while not being transparent on rationale seems like a quick way to disenfranchise your loyal base.

probably cost-cutting, lack of availability(there’s been rumblings of this with the veneer trims), or some combination thereof

I’ve had options/features removed from exactingly specified factory ordered cars before and only found out at delivery. This sort of thing is unfortunately not a novel occurrence, especially in the current manufacturing climate.

I guess I am just sitting on a different set of principles. I’m not going to worry about a few little things being modified before I take delivery. With them honoring the pre March pricing, that to me is still an incredible amount of good faith they put in my bank.

I’m sitting on a configuration at 77k, if I configure the same thing today it is 97k. If I include the tax and license on that 20k I’m saving over 22k.

I still have the option to walk away if I do not think the delivered product is worth 2k more than I paid for a Tesla Model S in 2016.

Just for reference with inflation that $75,000 in 2016 Is worth $93,358.07 in 2022.
