We all signed up for an adventure vehicle that was portrayed with certain trim, behaviors and accessories. Those vehicles were then given to reviewers to provide feedback and build a fan base.

Yes the agreement says they can change the product. In essence you are not reserving a spec that rivian commits to build, or for that matter a place in line to receive it (or even the price of the vehicle). It feels more like you reserved an idea with no commitment to deliver on the original concept.

Moving the goalpost on vehicle spec and available accessories while not being transparent on rationale seems like a quick way to disenfranchise your loyal base.
It is the way

I guess I am just sitting on a different set of principles. I’m not going to worry about a few little things being modified before I take delivery. With them honoring the pre March pricing, that to me is still an incredible amount of good faith they put in my bank.

I’m sitting on a configuration at 77k, if I configure the same thing today it is 97k. If I include the tax and license on that 20k I’m saving over 22k.

I still have the option to walk away if I do not think the delivered product is worth 2k more than I paid for a Tesla Model S in 2016.

Just for reference with inflation that $75,000 in 2016 Is worth $93,358.07 in 2022.
Not about the $$$$....

Haha, true.

Well, Rivian, if you’re out there, do what you gotta do.
When it comes to removing features or spending less on features.....they are listening

Yeah, consider the source - Munro thinks the inside and manufacturing of the Tesla model 3 and Y are absolutely fantastic. Every time I get in my Model Y I am reminded of my first car - a 1979 Dodge Colt which was so stripped it only had AM radio and no A/C. So, IMHO Munro's opinion is bunk. They need to make the changes underneath not on the surface. Bad move by Rivian IMNSHO.
Exactly! I told y'all Munro was good for cost cutting and bad for customers. He rants and raves about Tesla because of their ability to cut costs and streamline manufacturing. At some level, this is a good thing - but when you start stripping away all the little touches that give an $80 or even $90 or $100K vehicle the perception of quality and upscale material choice, you are going to turn away your buyers.

Did anyone ask a Guide or CS to get an official answer?

I am hoping that it was a temporary sourcing issue.

I think it's less about bait and switch and more about just being transparent. After the absolute hysteria about lacking yellow on some all weather floor mats, Rivian should be aware that they have a very very delicate contingent of their customer base who will lose their minds with any change. Tesla fanboys were a little like that in the beginning too, but they also had a contingent that defended every downgrade as if it was part of Elon's master plan....

They should be sending out general updates about any interior or exterior trim changes like they did when they retooled the Ocean Coast Interior. It's as simple as letting people know that supply chain issues mean that there will be subtle differences in various cosmetic parts as they work to pump out vehicles.

Rivian shareholders wouldn't mind if pre march pricing customers cancelled their orders because of plastic vs wood inserts or missing frunk outlets.

Feel free to submit your cancellation requests tonight. Rivian shareholders need all the breaks they can get.

I wish people would get temporary bans every time they suggest this crap. It's just wrong.
