This one might actually based on some feedback. I can’t seem to find it now, but I swear I saw a video where someone said that the wood trim would catch on some garment types.

they actually complained that the wood trim was too rough.

If I find it again I’ll post it. I’m sure there was more detail. Any one with the trim try rubbing it with a towel?

… and so it begins. Come to think about it, didn’t they already remove 12v in the frunk and two of the sliding tie downs?

Can someone take a better picture of what the current one looks like? To be honest, if it gets vehicles out sooner and saves them some money, this seems like a pretty small alteration.
mine also has plastic. Vin 17xx

I honestly don't mind it, but it was a bit of a surprise. This wood trim just doesn't feel like it will last and live well, in my opinion. It seems like it needs to be oiled and sanded. Again, just my opinion.

I’m bummed about the tonneau and plug in the frunk, but I’m actually glad they switched this piece to plastic. I noticed the the wood trim during my first mile, and while it looked nice, I was worried about my kids destroying it. I certainly see how it could be disappointing to some, but I think for durability and ease of cleaning this is the right call.

Not surprising at all. It’s known as de-contenting in the business. Rivian is no different than any other auto manufacturer.

For that location I think the plastic looks better than the wood so I'm fine with it. I also think it might be supply chain issues prompting this change. I'd rather have the plastic and all of us take delivery, as opposed to waiting 12 weeks longer for two pieces of wood.

After seeing better pictures of the plastic, I think it looks fine, possibly better than the wood (well at least the black ash, I might be disappointed to loose out if I paid for Forest Edge and its nice brown wood trim). The wood is a little rough. I picked up some dry cleaning, and tried to use the hanger on the back of the seat, and I was worried I was going to damage the wood. I don't think I would've had the same concerns with the smoother plastic. I also think the plastic would be easier to keep clean long term.

VIN 139xx here. R1T Headrest piece is wood, no 12v plug in frunk. Single magnet in frunk. Love the truck. I'm keeping it! California boy with 22" street tires on mine.

Single magnet in frunk.
Forgot all about that. Single magnet that still does its job. Still can’t figure out why some people were so upset by this.

I thought the same thing, that using the seat back hook with wood surround for dry cleaning wire hangers would mean I’d almost certainly scratch or splinter the wood trim at some point and then I’d be furious with myself. Like, Joan Crawford furious:

I was even thinking that I’d get some clear Plasti-Dip spray just for those 2 pieces of wood to hopefully protect them.

I think I just ended up laying the dry cleaning down on the back seat, only a 2 miles drive. If I regularly need to transport clothes on hangers I’ll be looking for another solution. I can’t remember if there are roof handles for the backseats, but I think I would have used those had they been available.

I didn’t see any dedicated hanger hooks over the rear doors and I think I’d just create a different type of problem using the Ocean Coast (nearly white) roof handles as hanger hooks by getting them filthier faster.
