Why no Tri-motor R1s!?

How perfect would this be? More efficient single motor for the front axles and a dual motor setup for the rear to give it real rear locker capability. Definitely seems like a missed opportunity. What do yall think? 750hp, max pack tri motor with rear "locker"!

I think it's too many options for Rivian right now to offer a tri motor. They are focused on churning out vehicles so adding another option would not be great. Look at what they are currently doing with streamlining options for their currently vehicles. Also don't forget they are launching 3 different vehicles all in the same year.

Honestly this sounds like an unnecessary permutation. For people who don't care about power then the dual motor is fine. For people who want power then just get quad.

I think Tesla is understanding the same thing with the Cybertruck.

I want capability range and power in that order. Power isn't the issue I'm having. I was going to have that in my 2018 max pack pre order. Now it's botched and I'm kinda torn. I think I'm leaning toward dual motor max pack which will sacrifice snow/mud performance.

From maximizing cruise range and still having power to accelerate, 3 motor makes lot of sense. Take the Tesla Semi as an example.

It uses dual motor on the rear drive for acceleration and maneuvering; while, just a single motor to cruise. Rivian could have done something very similar where the current Bosch units in the rear, the new Rivian unit in the front. This way, the variation complexity is minimized, since they're making these two versions already.

My guess is that Rivian felt that SW upgrade to the dual motor setup resulted in more performance/$ cost for them.
