I met with AJ in SoCal and an engineer to engineer discussion on the design aspects of their latest Trail Swings for my Rivian R1T. Now I don't have to empty out the bed to get to the spare tire out on the trail and I have a sturdy mount to carry everyday camping accessories.

Driver+ doesn't really care if stuff on the rear of the vehicle is obstructed. I designed my swing-arm to hold the tire over to one side of the truck, but it still definitely obscures the backup camera and sensors. I'm not sure if there's a good way to mount a tire back there while avoiding that and also not going too high up the vehicle so that it's then starting to block my extra rear light bar (which isn't active because the brake lights aren't actually on in this photo), and the normal brake light.

I might try to get the light bar up higher, but then it'll be in the way when unpacking the tent. It could also be possible for the R1T to be able to tuck the swing-arm between the tailgate and the rear bumper with the gooseneck hinge providing enough clearance, but that certainly would mean it won't work on the R1S.

Driver+ is not affected, the only draw back is the blockage of the rear camera and the rear sensors warning you while in reverse.
To counter the camera, I purchase a wireless camera system that also records. The video is transmitted to the screen that is provided with decent quality.

Not a fan at all of this solution (don’t like the look, position or fact that it blocks the camera) but glad something exists.

This is a true for all hitch mount tire carriers. There are options to remedy it but nothing OEM.

I wonder how hard it would be to remount the rear camera and extend the wiring? This would allow normal rear camera function.

Looks like Dirtcom make relocation kits for some other vehicles. Any chance they will do the same for Rivian?

This is something I could use but, like others, blocking the rear camera is a no go for me.

@Dark-Fx - I too would also like to know this. I thought I had read something from you on it but can’t find it now.

I’d love to see Rivian’s solution when it comes but a backup in my pocket would be great.

You and me buddy. I got a chance to use the Rivian version a year ago when it was in development. Winch controls was pretty cool to use cause it was integrated into the vehicle controls.
