Hello Everyone,
Few days back I got email about finalizing my configuration for R1T and it shows tentative date of May/June for Delivery.
I have got few question from your experiences.
I live in Dallas, TX area and most of my usage will be on road. Not much of an off road person.
1. should i get 21 road tires or 20 inch AT? any experience with if i can get AT for 21 inch wheel size?
2. I was interested in getting a full size spare and i see Rivian moved it to Gear shop and increased price. Wasn't spare tire about 1800 dollars before? now gear shop shows it minimum to be about 3700.
3. any configuration/accessory you is must have?
4. Any opinion about manual tonneau cover? I had automatic in my configuration earlier which rivian removed, so wondering if i should get rivian manual or buy something off-market.
5. Is it worth getting PPF done from rivian or get it done outside later?
6. what was your experience with trade-in? Did Rivian pay fair price?

My apologies if these are repeated questions.

If you're in Dallas, I'd consider selling you my unused spare. Though you'd need to come and pick i up in Houston. I'll PM you

My apologies if these are repeated questions.
1. If you want maximum efficiency and don't do much off roading the 21s are great. Just keep in mind there is currently no other manufacturer making replacement 21" tires/ wheels that will fit the Rivian.
2. Single spares are in short supply right now and most vehicles are not delivered with a spare. There are other options like modernspare, which gives you a good emergency option. Or you can buy from someone else who doesn't need their spare. Others are grouping together and buying tire/ wheel sets and splitting the cost.
3. Accessories are subjective. If you think you need something, get it. Otherwise you can buy most of them from the gear shop later. Lots of info here about specific accessories.
4. The manual tonneau cover is not available yet. The good news is they can ship it to you later on, but as of now no one really knows anything about it. Even the guides have never actually seen one.
5. Most people are getting PPF done locally. You can usually get a better quality PPF with a better warranty doing it that way, but I am getting mine with front only factory PPF simply for the convenience of it.
6. I have not gotten my trade in price yet from Rivian but most people lately have said that Rivian's offer was among the lowest. Best practice is to get their price and also check out every other option, including private sale.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
My friend’s advice on wheel selection: get whichever one brings you joy.

Practically speaking, the 21ā€ roads have performed phenomenally for me over 4k miles. Off-road, snow, etc. I like the look of the 20’s better, but personally didn’t want the range or noise hit. But I’m honestly shocked at how well they have performed so far.

Thank you very much Mike. Just to clarify, you have 21" road tires in your truck and they did good on snow etc?

Yes - I ended up going with the 21s kind of by accident. I prefer the look (and tire availability) of the 20s, but couldn’t make up my mind and kind of … forgot … when it was time to move ahead. Once I soft-locked the config, they told me it could be a considerable wait if I changed the config.

That said, I’m extremely happy about my ā€œmistake.ā€ The 21s with the stock tires performed extremely well in the snow. I’ve also taken them off-road and was very impressed - wouldn’t take them on a hardcore off-road adventure, but they’re plenty capable for fire roads, light chunk, steeps and slip.

My thoughts:

1. should i get 21 road tires or 20 inch AT? any experience with if i can get AT for 21 inch wheel size?
Get what you like the look of best - 21's will be harder to replace as there are fewer aftermarket options, but you'll get increased range.
2. I was interested in getting a full size spare and i see Rivian moved it to Gear shop and increased price. Wasn't spare tire about 1800 dollars before? now gear shop shows it minimum to be about 3700. The $3700 price is for a full set of 4. They don't offer spares yet in the gear shop.
3. any configuration/accessory you is must have? This is really your choice.
4. Any opinion about manual tonneau cover? I had automatic in my configuration earlier which rivian removed, so wondering if i should get rivian manual or buy something off-market. I don't see any reason NOT to get the manual tonneau cover, especially if you are locked into the $800 pre-pricing. All the aftermarket options are garbage and over $1,000+
5. Is it worth getting PPF done from rivian or get it done outside later? My personal opinion, I would pass on the PPF. The factory doesn't wrap the edges and you can get it done elsewhere for a competitive cost.
6. what was your experience with trade-in? Did Rivian pay fair price? Absolutely not. Rivian was by far the lowest trade-in price, 30% below what I sold mine for private party.

According to the info about factory PPF that still appears in the visualizer, they do fully wrap the edges on all panels possible. I'm sure it's not as good as getting it done at a local pro shop, but it will be fine as far as I'm concerned...assuming they do a good job with the application...

My apologies if these are repeated questions.
1. No ATs for 21ā€, but if you don’t drive on unmaintained roads the ATs will probably be an overkill.
2. The $3700 is for a full set, the spare will be available in the Gear Shop, probably sometime after the April refresh.
3. The only must haveā€˜s are things you can’t get after delivery, so consider the color, tonneau, and RUS options well before confirming.
4. I got no-tonneau option, but the current no-tonneau builds are all manual-compatible, so I intend to get the manual tonneau from the Shop when it’s available, also likely sometime after the next delivery estimate refresh.
5. I think it’s a great value, if the paint job is good you get the benefit of application before any potential contamination. If you care about wrapping All edges or doing a full wrap then aftermarket is the only option.
6. I got better value from Rivian than Carmax, Carvana, etc. for my Honda.

Thank you DTown. Great to know about Trade In, most probably i will look outside then. near delivery will put it up for private party sale. 30% difference is a huge difference.
3700 for set of 4 make sense.
I do have manual tonneau cover added so will keep it.

It seems like i can see if rivian will give good value otherwise sell car on my own. I think it also depends on the timing. Used car prices have come down also.

I personally have seen numerous posts where the factory XPEL is not wrapped and is applied...lets just say...not well. If you don't really care, its probably a decent deal.
