I just assumed they were making confirmed configurations for existing reservations all the time - maybe a dumb question but why are there so many R1's in the Shop?
I think they used to build configs in batches and also load balance deliveries based on where SCs had capacity. So, for example, they would have had a bunch of LG with FE interiors that they made and would pop them into a given regional shop based on SC capacity and shipping logistics. I don't think many of these vehicles are customer rejections based on what I've heard from talking to the folks in the LA SC.

I tried to get one of the LG/FE and it was taken as I clicked “confirm.” Once my guide told me I didn’t actually get it, went back in to get the 21” wheel version and that was taken as I clicked confirm. So that was my day.
Happened to me as well. I've noticed that if you wait a few seconds after you get the 'its taken" message, sometimes it does free up again (e.g., because the person who grabbed it either didn't proceed all the way or let their session expire).

Exact same situation and vehicle available in Houston. This one must be at the factory?

I didn’t even get an “it’s taken” message. My page reloaded and brought me back. I thought I was in for sure.

It seems like each store will have vehicles listed that are at the SC or factory which is why I’m seeing that yellow one in the Brooklyn store.

Ditto in Arizona. Now have 3: The same one as before FG/FE Adv with 22” darks, the same CY as you all see, and a third one that’s LG/FE LE with 20” darks.

Makes sense there are some local in the SC and some in Normal that they’re willing to ship anywhere.

If people are grabbing them from the shop they should talk to their guide as soon as they grab one. If it is in Normal they may be able to arrange a factory delivery. I enjoyed the factory delivery and the road trip home was a great way to get acquainted with the new ride. Maybe even a bonus of getting it a few weeks earlier.

I’ve thought about doing the same, but I’m a new EV owner and would be a bit anxious on range/charging. It does sound tempting and would get me situated with the vehicle handling, charging, road trips, etc. Hmmm… Now that I think about it, maybe I’ll let my guide know I’m open to taking delivery in Normal. ??

I say you go for it. Looking at ABRP there are EA stations all the way from Normal to Phoenix and all of the stretches are under 200 miles. Should be a very good first trip to get acquainted with the vehicle.

I’ve had a Tesla for 7 years so I’m familiar with EV driving but I still over charged for the first few charges until I was more comfortable with actual range I was seeing in the Rivian. My longest stretch was close to 240 miles. I was using ABRP to plan the route and putting the next charger in the Rivian navigation so it would prep the battery for the charges. The guess-o-meter in the navigation screen for the Rivian was very accurate for my 5k mile trip and did not take me long to trust it.

@SANZC02

How are you inputting a charger location so your Rivian recognizes it and prepares the battery for charging?

I use ABRP for the route and chargers. I would then search for Electrify America and the city in the Rivian navigation and select it. I did it for the one Charge Point I used as well. I charged 34 times on the trip, only 1 was not an EA.
