I've got a toddler but still decided to live life on the edge just because of how damn pretty OC was :CWL:

Looked into a good bit and most reports seem to indicate it holds up well and is easy to clean (holding true for us so far, but also only 1 week into ownership currently). Ultimately just decided to get what I wanted even if that means there's a higher risk for some stains / imperfections along the way. May regret it down the road, but zero regrets to this point.

Also, highly, highly recommend the 20" AT for anyone who is on the fence as long as you can live with the range hit. They are absolutely beautiful tires, easier and cheaper to find alternative replacements if wanted and -- most importantly -- they are absolutely beautiful tires (wait, did I say that already??).

So you really like the sexy tires....check

Just snagged an Adventure, FG/OC 21" from the shop (Phoenix service center). Nearly identical to my config - just missing the underbody shield. I made the call that I likely will never do any off-roading extreme enough to warrant it. Vin 79xx.

I have a pre-order from June 2021 for R1S (GW, OC, 21, RUS, Quad, Large) and went for a test drive on April 22, 2023. My original time slot for delivery was July 2023 - September 2023. After the most recent update my timeslot was revised to August 2023 - September 2023.

I mentioned to the guide at that time that I was flexible with my configuration and would be willing to take delivery early.

She mentioned she would add me to the flexible soft leads and to be on the lookout for an email with R1S shop access.

Just today I had a guide from the factory reach out to me to let me know they can get me a vehicle within the next 4 - 8 weeks if I am flexible with my configuration.

I let them know the main items I want is underbody shield and to keep the price below $80,000.

I did mention I would be willing to give up Ocean Coast interior / Glacier White Paint (Stormtrooper theme) in exchange for Meridian audio and launch edition with better wheels.

In the end I just asked if they could give me access to the shop and I can find something that works for me.

I honestly don't have a problem waiting till September 2023 or even middle of 2024 but will take delivery early if they can get me something with Meridian audio / upgraded wheels.

Did you end up getting access to the shop? This is the same thing I (and others) have told people at Rivian and their response has always been "access is given only based on pre-order date". I even mentioned this list and was told they knew nothing of it. I'm a July 2021 pre-order with the same delivery window as you.

The guide from the factory just reached out to me today 30 minutes before the end of their shift.

I sent them a text with my requirements and also requested access to the shop.

I will let you know if the guide is going to work on finding me a configuration manually or just make me wait for shop access when my turn comes up or my actual configuration in September.

Any spicific info you have that you believe the Meridian audio is better than the in house? I have heard conflicting info, some say the new Audio is better than the Meridian.

Reducing the number of speakers is pretty good evidence that their primary motivation was something other than improving sound quality.

In the of their recent videos, I think it was with Wassym, he mentioned the ability to integrate/update with the new Rivian audio. I wonder if this is possible with meridian too? If going to their in-house audio means the ability to update and have more future control this could actually be a benefit to customers

Just an FYI that I've pieced together between some overlapping dates:
  • Rivian has stated that the shift to in-house audio began sometime in February 2023 (as a data point, my R1S is a March 2023 build & has the in-house audio).
  • The notes on the updated IHHS crash tests for the 2023 R1S state that Rivian implemented the enhanced occupant safety improvements (which increased the score on the moderate overlap test) on R1S vehicles built after January 2023 (i.e., beginning with vehicles produced in February 2023).
Taking these production dates together, there's a pretty good chance that an R1S with Meridian audio does not have the occupant safety enhancements (and an R1S with the in-house audio likely does have the occupant safety enhancements).

Depending on the exact dates each change was implemented on the assembly line it's possible there will be a very minor amount of overlap on vehicles built in late January and/or early February 2023, but otherwise those two changes line up pretty neatly so I think it should be a pretty safe rule of thumb to correlate the two features for the vast majority of R1S builds.

My short one week review on the R1S with elevation audio. It's sounds really good with Tidal hifi + as my main source of audio. It does seem to lack a little in the base dept, but most my rock choices don't require it.

Buddy who rode in my Rivian, never seeing one before, commented how good the sound system was, right off the bat.

My guide mentioned the same thing that finding a meridian audio system with improved floor pan will not be possible.

some might get lucky with overlap but it’s not possible to find a configuration like that ahead of time.

I spoke to my guide and he was able to find a vehicle for me at my local service center In the paint color I originally selected. Not sure about the rest of the specs on it.

In addition, he sent me an invite to the shop and mentioned it can take 1-3 days to see it on my end.

I’m leaning towards keeping my original configuration with September delivery unless I find a unicorn in the shop that I can’t resist.

Rivian will need to sweeten the deal with upgraded wheels if they want me to take early delivery and not sacrifice my ocean coast interior in the process or underbody shield.

I just got shop access and can see 1 launch edition available for me. The wheels are included free but I have to give up my underbody shield and pay for blue paint.

Hard pass from me on that.
