June Deliveries...

Having made an incorrect statement earlier today, I want to be careful about this, but didn't we hear that they were finishing about one per day, as of a few weeks ago? I'd think they wouldn't be so finicky about putting them together for crash-testing. If they continue even at that pace until the production line starts up soon, they'll have mine and a few others ready for us to pick up in Normal in early June.

As Alexander Pope said a couple of centuries back, "Hope springs eternal in the human breast".

Yeah, I remember seeing that as well. That's sort of where my person assumption for their starting production rate is coming from as well. 1 car a day for a week or month, and then double that. And then double it the next week or something until the reach production goals.

This is not at all based on any sort of experience. Just a guess.

Their prototyping rate has been 1 a day. Hopefully by the time they reach production they are able to manage at least 1 an hour. Still, I expect June deliveries to be under 100 and not until the final third of the month.

I think they will have some late June deliveries. The real test with be July. If it’s less than 200-300 in July, then they weren’t ready and any June deliveries were a charade to check a box and say they did it.

Yeah, hope they don’t pull a Tesla. Tesla can promise like a Q4 2016 delivery, will do a big hoo ha about like 5-10 cars, and say they met their target In the past.

Considering the following isn't up yet.

-Color Selection Confirmation (at least real pics of Launch Green)
-Financing Portal
-Rivian App
-Interior walk thru w/ pics
-Technical Specs of Charging/Architecture (optional)

I somehow dont see all of this magically coming together in 19 days unless they simply just launch it all at once under a new AWS instance and just redirect all traffic to there which would be dope but also a LOT of work. Either way the next 2 weeks are going to be crazy and June will be even crazier if they can pull it all off.

I am guessing they will start contact people last week of May for a late June Delivery and even then it will be less than 50 vehicles.

I'm glad I don't see a lot of Tesla-like activity going on here. Not to rail against Tesla, it's just that these two leaders and their companies seem to take very different approaches to this business. Elon had to chart his own course, as nobody has really come close to the challenges he faced in kicking off this movement. I admire him for all he's done so far, but his cars don't float my boat.

On the other hand, RJ and Rivian had my deposit in the first hour I became aware of the company, in Feb. of '19. Both leaders are visionary. One is mercurial and, literally (I hate using that word) out of this world. The other seems more measured, methodical, and down to Earth. RJ's style, and his offering, hit the right note with me. Elon's vehicles are great, but they just don't inspire me. That said, the genius he showed by building out his charging network ahead of large numbers of his cars was brilliant. I think that in two years, they will be compared and contrasted frequently, and often mentioned together in the same sentence.

Back to this thread, I have no doubt that at least a small number of well-vetted R1Ts will be rolling around the country in June with grinning Riviots at the wheel of each. If I'm wrong I'll gladly accept the punishment of flying back to Normal and piloting a Launch Green version home to Oregon via a very circuitous route. "Taking one for the team", I believe they call it. ?

Not to rail against Tesla, it's just that these two leaders and their companies seem to take very different approaches to this business.

I wonder how many people take this into account, consciously or not? To me it feels like TESLA is a tech company which happens to make cake cars. I think the company designs cars and incorporates features using visionary/idealistic priorities rather than customer priorities. As just one example, the company is so focused on FSD over instrumentation on the 3 and Y that they are leaving money on the table with some sales and outright losing others. If people will pay $1,500 for a paint color, do you really think they wouldn’t pay the same amount or more for a HUD if they place importance on driving without having to look down at a display?

I have a great deal of respect for TESLA and Elon Musk for pushing the adoption of EVs. My hope is that Rivian will strike a better balance (for the average driver) when it comes to leading edge tech vs. traditional car interface. We came very, VERY close to buying a Model Y as a commuter car for my husband, but some of the uncompromising vision kept us from purchasing. We would have gotten a Model X but the Falcon Wing doors are a deal-killer for us.

On some level I think TESLA would be better off if Elon focused most of this attention on SpaceX so the car business could offer some features which appeal to even more buyers.

Rechecked for new/interesting sub domains and found several new and updates that are interesting.

Not going to list them but several api interfaces to likely key partners and lots of dev, staging, & prod records are now present.

They have a dedicated api sub-domain so that's probably where the app will be interacting.

Not going to list them but several api interfaces to likely key partners and lots of dev, staging, & prod records are now present.

They have a dedicated api sub-domain so that's probably where the app will be interacting.

Every single highly anticipated vehicle I really liked which accepted preorders well in advance has experienced last minute delays. Unless Rivian can pull off something Ford, Lucid, Tesla, Chevy, and others could not by delivering a vehicle by the expected deadline, Rivians will not be delivered in June.

I am rooting for Rivian, but my optimism cannot convince me that Rivian will somehow meet the June delivery goal. History tells me auto manufacturers simply cannot meet their own goals lately.

I hope I'm wrong.

lol, there are hints of progress on all the digital stuff for the vehicle (app, car diagnostics) plus factory integrations (i.e., get more supplies, send diagnostics to vendors) but nothing that could actually be confirmed/newsworthy.
