Is there a high probability this is an early MY22 R1S or perhaps a return?
Its a great deal but I don't want to end up with someone else's problem.

It can’t be a return or it would be considered pre-owned. There were still a few MY22s about a couple of months ago in the shop but I haven’t heard of anyone getting one recently. It is most likely a 23 build but you really don’t know for sure until you lock it in and get the VIN. My guide just recently helped me secure a LE RB 22” OC at a SC near me. (I had been having issues with my shop link so he helped me find one of my favorite builds). It’s being delivered on Tuesday. It was born 04/23.

Pretty sure it said something about "not going back" and losing original order by accepting the shop vehicle config. I hope I'm wrong but those words gave me pause before hitting button.
I wouldn’t worry about it. Take a breath and be happy with your purchase. You don’t know when it was built and if there really were any difficulties in production. You’re probably making a mountain our of a mole hill (as my dad used to say). And even if it was from a few months ago, the delay could be due to any number of reasons and may not be because there were issues. There was also a recall on all of the tail lights around that time, so maybe it got held up due to that. Who knows. Try not to stress. It will be fine. Congrats on your configuration and new R1S.

Let's clear the garage!!!
Im in the same boat, locked in my R1S via shop on 4/24, vehicle made it to Dallas in less than a week as per my guide.. now playing waiting game with no updates/estimates from my guide. He says I should get a call from the delivery team when inspections are done! Been close to 4 years of waiting.. sooo close now
Still waiting.. been over 2 weeks at my local SC.. makes me curious if there’s any damage while making its way down, guide’s not being helpful with any info..

This is not an unusual timeframe, guide wouldn’t know. Service centers are busier than ever which is a good thing for the future of Rivian and our vehicles.

Thank you! 007884
I had to do a doubletake and check my VIN because I thought "Wait, that's MY VIN!" . Haha, same digits, just transposed. :D

Thanks! The VIN is 7PDSGABA0PN008900, and yes, it has the All Terrain upgrade. I guess that means it's a few hundred dollars more than my pre-order would have been, but the prospect of having it for the summer (rather than my orig. estimate of October-December 2023) is worth it to me.
I made the same decision. My delivery was July-Aug 23 without the All Terrain upgrade. I really wanted it for this summer's travels, was gonig to buy a spare, and I was on the fence from day one regarding the RUS, so it was like hitting the EASY button when I saw my exact config with the upgrade in the shop.

If you assume they are building about 150 R1S a day (very rough guess) or 750 a week, and latest VINs reported are 9xxx, you could take a rough guess at when it was built. A 2000 VIN would be around 10 weeks - perhaps March?

As others said, it can't be sold as new if it was a return. There could be a ton of reasons as to why it showed up in the shop. As benign as someone taking 45-50 days to arrange financing, payment, etc. and cancelling at the very last minute. Or it got set aside because they ran out of a part it needed when it was on the line, it got set aside with other "incomplete builds" and then they finished it weeks later with other incomplete builds. Or it failed final inspection because something didn't pass (entertainment system rattle, door needed adjusting, etc) and it got added to the rework queue.

I'm purely speculating here, but it is based on working as an engineer for 30+ years with various manufacturing companies. I don't think I ever seen a manufacturer that does not have some sort of rework queue where things can get delayed. One customer processes steel. As crazy as it sounds, one day a VP asked them what the retail value of the rework queue was. Nobody knew. They did an inventory, and it was over $50m, lol. As another example, if you buy chocolate ice cream, you may be surprised (or disgusted) to know that in virtually all dairy facilities, rework/reclaim goes into chocolate ice cream (up to 10% of the ingredients), because the choclate masks the other flavors, such as vanilla, etc.

Removed them? Or maybe it was just the outlets.

Does anyone know if you can back out and get back your shop access. Trying not to be ungrateful but also don’t to have to wonder/worry my very expensive vehicle had issues from the start.
It's highly unlikely it had any serious issues. Much more likely it's An orphan that was built from someone else who confirmed / started along the process and ultimately backed out or fell through for financing or some other reason.

As far as feature changes, 12v in frunk was removed in 2022 and I think that the wood behind the seats was also in 2022.

Meridian audio was removed at almost exactly the same time the driver side safety improvements were made (~February 2023). Generally speaking, if you have Meridian audio you don't have the safety improvements and vice versa.

12V under dash was either February or early March 2023 (my VIN 61XX built in March 2023 doesn't have it, unfortunately).

Basically, whether Meridian audio is on the window sticker can help you confirm a lot. If it isn't, you don't have a frunk 12v, you don't have coat hanger wood trim, you likely do have safety improvements, and dash 12v is a toss up.

If you do have Meridian audio, you don't have safety improvements, you likely do have a dash 12v, and frunk 12v/coat hanger wood trim are unlikely, but possible.

Clear as mud, right?

Do you have the welded or cast subframe?

Pretty confident it's cast, but will have to look later and make sure. Very clean underbody so assume that's the case since I haven't noticed anything.
