I am about to give up on my VIN and decouple... start the search for a new one. My VIN remains "factory gated" which means It didn't pass quality control, needs more work, failed a test, something isn't right and therefore can't be released from the factory. I don't want to start off with an R1S that has issues... even if they try to repair it before shipping. I am trying to find out exactly what is wrong with the car so that I can make my decision. At this point.. I think I would get faster delivery if I decouple and pick a new VIN in the shop. So, to net it out for this thread... my experience of picking a VIN from the shop and then having it sit with no movement is clearly not the norm. If yours is sitting in Normal in a "factory gated" state... then it means it did not pass quality control, needs parts, paint, reworked, drivetrain issues, etc. Something big enough to warrant holding the car and putting it in the back lot till someone can get around to figuring out what to do with it. :-/
Take my advice and ask to be unmatched. My first R1S from the shop was also factory gated. Mine didn’t even have a vin assigned. When I got the vin it showed an early Jan build VIN 003xx but it was still at the factory months later. I should have rejected it then but I was excited that I found a launch edition in my configuration. The vehicle showed up and so had so many cosmetic issues.

I see that you reserved yours on on 9/2021, exactly same month as I did. You are at Redmond, I am at Mill Cree WA. What was your most recent delivery estimate? My most recent estimate was Q4 2023 and received the confirm config email last Wednesday. It seems you've got yours a month ahead. Did you have a Q4 estimate before? Did you ever changed your config since Rivian started doing the quaterly estimate update?

BTW I also picked up a LE from the shop... LG/FE with 20 AT. Just like yours.
My last estimate was for Q2 2024, but that was for a max pack R1T.

Our situation changed over the past couple of years, so I recently switched to an R1S and asked for shop access. From there it only took a week to pick one out.

I wanted a black interior because it's free and the online render of the green didn't look so good, but otherwise got exactly what I was looking for. And now that we have seen the Forest Edge interior in person, we love it.

Good luck, and I hope you enjoy yours as much as we do ours!

I asked to be unmatched on Friday. They were going to try to get my Shop access later that day, but neither have happened... I still see my original R1S in my profile and therefore (since I am matched) I do not have shop acccess. All quite frustrating. The latest on my original VIN was... it is just sitting there at the factory but never made it to the final step,... no one knows why or the ETA. I was thinking maybe the underbody gets installed after it rolls out of the factory and that was what it was waiting for (like PPF)... but I have to think they bolt it on during normal assembly, not after. Anyway... we will see what tomorrow bring. The key is getting something on a truck before the truck->train switch over later this month. Once I miss the truck window... then it will be a much longer ship timeframe.

Oh I see. My configuration showed launch edition even after I was unmatched. So don’t let that confuse you into thinking you haven’t been unmatched. When I questioned my guide about this she said the configuration will now show that vehicle as your new confirmed build. It will not revert back to your original configuration. Shop access for me opened up a little after 48 hours from when my guide told me she submitted the request and it was approved. So I hope by tomorrow evening you see that you have shop access.

Regarding your comment about shipping by truck vs train, my guide said she heard this past week was the cut off for shipping via truck. My R1S shipped out yesterday via truck so I’m not sure if they are waiting to officially switch over by the end of this month or starting tomorrow. What have you heard? Train shipment will definitely be much slower. ☹

5/1 got VIN
5/2 got a “Your vehicle is ready to leave the factory” email
5/16 Rivian Insurance Rep suggested my truck shipped the week prior and to expect early June delivery
5/19 got another “Your vehicle is ready to leave the factory” email
5/23 Guide tells me the truck is still in IL, not at the factory but “in the vicinity” and it won’t be to Portland for 2-3 weeks.
6/5 Ask Guide for update, Guide says still en route. No ETA, will not give details.
6/5 evening. SC texts me, says “vehicle is on its way!”
6/6 SC clarifies that vehicle recently left Normal, has no location status. Estimates 1-3 weeks based on current shipping times.
6/7 got another “Your vehicle is ready to leave the factory” email
6/8 I contact my Guide, ask them what’s going on —all their communications are confusing and inconsistent. I again ask for details (ship date, location, method transport). Guide says they’ll get back to me.
6/9 Guide apologizes for the inconsistencies, confirms the truck left Normal around 5/2 (first email). Truck is shipped by rail. No ETA, but they “aren’t too sure about end of the month, or even mid-July.”

I’m considering canceling my order or accepting delivery and flipping. The transparency given during this process is damaging my trust in the company. I’ve confirmed other trains left Normal for my SC 2 weeks after my truck and cars on that train have already arrived and gone through PDI (arrived June 5). It seems doubtful at this point there is a true transportation delay, and instead something has happened to the truck. Why I’m getting the run around whereas others have gotten consistent location updates or had issues with the PDI conveyed to them by their Guide —I have no idea.

6/8 I Picked R1S from the shop
6/9 Guide said it is wrapping up production in Normal and expect it to deliver in a few weeks to Brooklyn SC
6/10 SC out of Capital Heights reached out and scheduled a home delivery
6/20 - Tentative date of Delivery

If they hit that delivery date, that would be 12 days from order to deliver which is way faster than I expected.

The cutoff is location dependent. At the moment I am still okay, I have another 10 days or so per the chart my guide looked at, but that would mean getting store access, finding a match, and getting it on a truck. Not super hopeful. Today I was unmatched... but 2 hours later I was rematch to my original VIN. Grrrrr. The explanation was that it was a perfect match for my (now new config) and the vin was still avail, so I got matched to it. Not sure if that is entirely accurate. Anyway, working on getting unmatched again. It was requested with urgency, but currently still matched in the system as of tonight. Also, Guide confirmed today that my original VIN is on a containment hold, which is why it remains factory gated. He does not know what the issue is with it... just that they found something that requires work before it can be released. So we have wasted about 2+ weeks. Hoping to make some actual progress with un-linking and Shop access tomorrow. A long wait... just for more waiting. My guide is awesome (I seriously owe the guy a nice steak dinner after all of this!) and super responsive... but it seems it takes a long time for anything to get processed through their systems once my guide requests it.

For everyone wondering about truck cutoff dates... it all has to do with quarterly earnings. This month is the end of the quarter and they report on deliveries... so right now they are trying to deliver as many as they can before month end.

Funny you say that! I feel I owe my guide a nice steak dinner too! lol I plan to find a way to send her something for all the trouble.

I confirmed delivery for this Saturday at 8:30am. I did request this Thursday if possible as I’m off that day. If not, Saturday it is.

Thank you!! ?
Well... I am back up and running. Long saga of delinking from my original VIN, only to be relinked but the system twice. I finally gained shop access and it was stocked full of Limestone/OC's. I just had a very difficult time deciding between my original dark 22's or going with the dark 20's. In the end I decided to just stick with the 22's. Maybe a mistake, but it is my wife's car and the extra range from the 22's is probably the most important thing. Anyway... Let's see how fast this one gets to me:)

First, apologies if these answers are elsewhere in the Forum. I have spent an inordinate amount of time following the Lucid Gravity rollout, but it looks like the time line is too long for me. So, I have paid the R1S reservation fee and hoping for a quicker delivery date (1st or 2nd Qtr 2024).
Question 1. Is this a realistic delivery date? I know many of you have waiting for years, and I do not what to lane jump. Question 2. I cannot find a "Build you own" web site for the R1S. Is there such a page or at least a web page for the R1S options? Question 3. Does the R1S come with Homelink at this time or is it planned in the future? Leaving the Tesla supercharging network after 6 years is a leap of faith, but I love the R1S and want to make a change.

Yes I was only looking at Limestone. I an there were a few. I could have grabbed on that matched with the 20s. Funny thing is... I think I like the Adventure tag in the dash better than Launch edition tag... so I actually didn't really want an LE. Price wise it didn't help.me b3cauae I wanted the dark wheels.

First, how were you folling the Gravity rollout? it seems there isn't much to follow... just few CGIs... almost like teaser shots with nearly zero information (price, range, specs)... or do you just mean time you wasted just waiting for them to build/release something?

to answer your question, no realistic delivery date... even for early rez holders... some have been waiting for 4 years, some are getting them after only a year wait... it all depends on your config especially the battery and motor configuration and even depends on which state/cities you are in.
you can build and price out your config by clicking 'visualize R1S' botton on main product page. You CAN"T no longer configure it on your account page. It will just tell you to wait for an invite to configure. Lastly, I believe Rivian does not have homelink button to open the garage but if you have a smart garage door opener linked to Alexa, you can do that way. say "Alexa, open the garage door" as you are pulling up. clicking the button under the rear view mirror is so old school :)
