My latest (and last)update on shipping times. My saga includes a little bit of "how it can go slowly" and "how quickly things can go"

Timeline:
  • 5/26
    • Shop access
    • Select VIN 1090x
    • Guide assigned
  • 5.27
    • chat with guide, confirmed shipping by truck, will come fast. WIll update when status switches to shipped
  • 5/30
    • Status still factory gated
  • 6/3
    • Factory Gated, containment hold (reason unknown)
  • 6/7
    • Factory Gated
  • 6/9
    • Factory gated - guide confirms that the vehicle needs to be on a truck by June 21st or it will default to rail transport. No ETA, still on containment hold (meaning not released for shipment) so we decide to delink and go shopping again in an attempt to make the shipping window.
  • 6/9-6/12
    • Guide working hard to help me, but a comical series of events happen. Delink requested (usually take effect the next morning). Delink was successful, then Shop access requested . Before my account was re-granted shop access my original VIN would be relinked to me and I was right back where I started :-/. We did this three times.. it was comical. Apparently, the system would match my specs to the now available original VIN and link me. My guide escalated things and the final time it only took a few minutes to de-link me again and grant me access to the Shop.
  • 6/13
    • After watching 8 different configs closely matching what I wanted, I finally picked a winner the moment it hit the shop (must have hit refresh a million times.) VIN 1306x. Limestone/OC/22 Darks
  • 6/14-16ish
    • I don't know the exact date it left Normal. I do know that when I picked it from the Shop it was just finishing production, so wasn't really to roll on a truck at that moment. Regardless, it still moved from the factory floor to my west coast SC in less than a week.
  • 6/21
    • Delivered to Bellevue SC, delivery set for Friday morning.
So, a few things I learned
  • If your R1 sits at the factory for more than a week you should start asking questions. I could be nothing... but it could mean that it needs to be reworked, needs parts, paint, etc. That isn't a terrible thing if you have the time to wait. The good news is they are fixing whatever needs fixed at the factory, which I think is always better than the SC. It is (or should be) rather painless to delink and regain shop access and find your exact config.
  • How your R1 is shipped is determined by the month/quarter end schedule. The schedule is different for each SC. Today (June 21st) is the last day for truck shipments to my SC. So, if you miss a "truck" window, then you will need to add quite a few weeks for rail shipments. I know the most recent truck window has been to deliver as many R1s before the end of Q2. I have heard they sometimes do the same for month-end but I can't confirm. Your guide should be able to tell you the shipping windows for your SC.
  • Lastly, my guide is epically awesome. He went way above and beyond to help me out (and also had to deal with a little bit of my craziness).

5/1 got VIN
5/2 got a “Your vehicle is ready to leave the factory” email
5/16 Rivian Insurance Rep suggested my truck shipped the week prior and to expect early June delivery
5/19 got another “Your vehicle is ready to leave the factory” email
5/23 Guide tells me the truck is still in IL, not at the factory but “in the vicinity” and it won’t be to Portland for 2-3 weeks.

6/5 Ask Guide for update, Guide says still en route. No ETA, will not give details.
6/5 evening. SC texts me, says “vehicle is on its way!”
6/6 SC clarifies that vehicle recently left Normal, has no location status. Estimates 1-3 weeks based on current shipping times.
6/7 got another “Your vehicle is ready to leave the factory” email
6/8 I contact my Guide, ask them what’s going on —all their communications are confusing and inconsistent. I again ask for details (ship date, location, method transport). Guide says they’ll get back to me.
6/9 Guide apologizes for the inconsistencies, confirms the truck left Normal around 5/2 (first email). Truck is shipped by rail. No ETA, but they “aren’t too sure about end of the month, or even mid-July.”

I’m considering canceling my order or accepting delivery and flipping. The transparency given during this process is damaging my trust in the company. I’ve confirmed other trains left Normal for my SC 2 weeks after my truck and cars on that train have already arrived and gone through PDI (arrived June 5). It seems doubtful at this point there is a true transportation delay, and instead something has happened to the truck. Why I’m getting the run around whereas others have gotten consistent location updates or had issues with the PDI conveyed to them by their Guide —I have no idea.
Latest updates in the saga:

6/15 Ask Guide for update and they say it’s made a lot of progress and should be the SC within a week and delivered by EOM.

6/21 SC says truck has arrived and on schedule for delivery on 6/28. I notify my bank to finalize financing and setup insurance.

6/23 Guide messages me asking “how I’m feeling about getting them the check by 6/26”. I send them a photo of the check and tracking number, and request that they confirm PDI is complete.

Lo and behold, the truck is STILL IN TRANSIT. Of course I learn this detail at 4:45p on Friday so there’s nothing to be figured out until Monday. I’m in disbelief at this point.

Painful. They will likely do everything they can to get you delivered by end of month. The Bellevue SC is packed right now by they can turn things quick. Mine arrived Wed morning and they delivered it Friday morning. Good luck... and hopefully only a few more days and the saga is over and you will forget all about it.

Thanks for the optimism!

I got a text today that it’s stuck in Kent and is now estimated to arrive in Portland July 4th. They’ve offered to home deliver now within a few days of their receipt (whenever that is, lol). I told them not to rush PDI, after all the anticipation I don’t want to find something that requires sending it back. Home delivery is helpful, though, since I’m 2.5 hours from the Portland SC. ETA is now July 8.

R1S (to be delivered)
I'm eagerly waiting for my delivery date and in the meantime, reading through all of the delivery threads trying to figure out what timing to expect. Timing so far:

- 09/2021 - Pre-ordered R1S - ultimately got August - September 2023 delivery window
- 07/10/2023 - Got email to confirm config, then got email to start purchase process and had VIN
- 7/14/2023 - Got email saying R1S is ready to leave the factory

My guide never proactively reached out. I texted him and he said expect 4-6 weeks at first. When I got the "ready to leave the factory email" I asked for an updated ETA and he said 5 weeks.

I listed my old car (2016 Range Rover Sport S/C) for a few thousand more than I was offered by Rivian (which was already high) and it sold in 3 days so now I'm carless.

Hopefully not too much longer!

014XXX doesn't seem like a Q1 build for the S, you might be thinking of the T? I selected an S from the shop on 7/5 and I have a 0149XX VIN. I believe I've seen 015XXX for S but not much newer than that?

Waiting on 016xxx
Selected from the shop on 17 July
Ready to leave the factory email on 20 July

I've text or emailed my guide with some minor questions, but it's been crickets, nothing from my guide.

Did get an email response from another guide acknowledging some paperwork I'd emailed my guide for a special license plate.

How have the communications gone for you? Got a 145xx from the shop on 7/7 and didn't get any dates from guide or an email that it was leaving the factory, then got a text from the delivery center on Friday to schedule pickup anytime after the 28th (Brooklyn). Seemed odd to not get the email and that guide didn't know where it was

The communication has been really spotty. I got the email on 7/10 to start the purchase process and 7/13 that it left the factory.

I never got proactive notification of my VIN or guide but found that both had been assigned. I reached out to my guide on 7/10 and he said to expect it to take 4-6 weeks since my car was still finishing up at the factory. I texted him again on 7/14 to say it seems my car was ready to leave and asked for an updated ETA and he said 5 weeks....

I'm in the Bay Area so I'm expecting it to take at least another week or two? Hoping it's not actually 5 weeks from 7/14.

Congrats on being able to pick yours up so soon!

I had a Rivian on order last year, but lucked into an F-150 Lightning last September, so I canceled my R1T order. When I saw the announcement that Rivian could potentially get you an R1T in two weeks, depending on the location, so I jumped and put down a deposit.

I am in Denver, which seems to be one of the ground zero delivery spots for Rivian, so I was optimistic that the process could move quickly. I was granted store access within 36 hours of my deposit and picked out a nice white R1T Adventure with the 22's in black. It seems the vehicle I chose is an early April build and was still sitting in Normal, so I inquired if I could arrange for factory pick up. My guide shared that the vehicle was already in the shipping queue for rail delivery to Denver and would be available for pick up in four to six weeks.

I was curious on what others have seen for vehicle delivery times from Normal? Last May I had a vehicle delivered from Germany to Denver faster than this window, and wanted to hear from others on what they experienced since four to six weeks to move a vehicle 850 miles seems like a long time.

Thanks in advance.
Picked one on R1 shop on 1 July, told 19 July delivery from Normal, they cancelled and now they say 5 Aug. Finished all steps on 6 July. We will see!

Bay Area, as well. Got the “ready to leave the factory“ email 7/24 and guide said 6-7 weeks from there to “ready for scheduling.”

Wonder if we have the same guide given the very long windows we were given ha. I’m sure they’re trying to avoid getting pinged every few days.

I broke down and texted my guide yesterday asking for an update. He said my car should get here first or second week of august which would out be at the 3-4 week mark from when it left the factory. Then I assume it has to go through QA which I hope is a few days but I know it could be longer.

Visited my local service center, where I'll be taking delivery. Learned a lot.

Timeline
17 July: Pick an R1S from the shop
20 July: complete all steps, except schedule delivery
21 July: email guide about extra registration form for special plate, and scheduling around planned trip
24 July: Guide of the day emails back that my R1S is scheduled to arrive mid to late August

26 July, stop by service center unannounced. Deliver guys not in the office.
Mention to service guys, would like to get a test drive for SWMBO. Call comes 30 minutes later to schedule first mile drive, from local delivery team.
While talking to local delivery team they mention my vehicle is in Nebraska, and schedule to arrive on 5 August. Will still need local prep after arrival.

Good visit.
