As much as we love our model Y the range is absolute trash. It’s rated for 300 miles (approx) for the Y performance, but at highway speeds with AC running we couldn't make 200 miles at a full 100% charge on a recent road trip. That’s with intermittent traffic maybe averaging 70mph for the trip. Then Kyle Conner does a review of the EQS suv, which is rated 330 and does 380 at highway miles with AC running. I have no idea how Tesla gets its EPA numbers.

I welcome the scrutiny.

Not likely, this is not really news IMHO. Not a Tesla fan but most of these customers likely didn't have any battery issues and it would have been a waste of SC time to investigate.

You can go to any EV forum and find an owner complaining his range isn't hitting EPA or any ICE forum and find an owner complaining about not hitting EPA fuel economy. The real world has a lot of factors at play.

The real scandal here is setting the range meter to “cheat” and only show accurate numbers after the battery is below 50%. Tell me how this is any different than VW cheating emissions tests?

Combine that with their covering it up by sandbagging any service requests and you have quite the dirty plot there.

In other news…water is wet.

Going from our Tesla to my Taycan was eye opening. I could generally flog the Taycan and still get the exact range stated and expected, sometimes more. I had to hyper-mile the Tesla to get anywhere close to 75% even in optimal weather.

The news is Tesla employed people to intentionally put false numbers forward if I am reading this correctly. Gaslighting their customers into thinking they are just misunderstanding it somehow. At least my experience with other manufacturers' EVs, it's either percentage of SoC based on EPA data, or the vehicle attempting to be accurate based on previous driving history, or in Rivian's case, a mixture of both.

The news is Tesla employed people to dismiss those complaints if I am reading the article correctly.
Yeah I read it the same way. My point is that is the right business decision, why waste service resources investigating these types of service complaints when they know (by looking remotely) there is nothing wrong with the vehicles.

You also can't say they lied about the range because that comes from independent testing, whether that is a good predictor in real life range is another debate.

This is why I call them "Elon Miles" and use a conversion factor of *0.9 to convert to standard statute miles on our Model 3.

350 indicated "Elon Miles" on the display = 315 Statute Miles.

Agreed... and their remote diagnostics would tell them if there was an actual battery issue anyway.

Time for the EPA to step-up and actually test every vehicle vs. testing 15-20% of new vehicles every year and relying on manufacturer provided numbers for the other 85% of vehicles as obviously someone is fudging the numbers.

Can’t wait to get my previously promised, completely grotesque, hardly functional, semi stainless, floating, can tow the globe, endless range, wildly expensive to produce - CXber Truck.

Yeah exactly. We have the long-range Model Y.. rated at 330 miles.. We can't go more than 220 miles before the battery is drained. Absolutely horrible.

this is some pretty shady s#!t

Telsa knows and knew exactly what they were doing. very smart people making smart cars and they can't estimate range properly based on external factors and driving behavior? i dont buy that. and they built in some auto correction at 50%? shady. Rivian is a brand new manufacturer and they have pretty much nailed the range estimates.

i get the canceling of appointments as a waste of time but only because they know nothing is actually wrong with the car!
