I have an R1T pre-order (2/2/22) with an ”Estimated Delivery of May-June 2023”. As far as I can discern it is now July 2023 and this leaves me in somewhat of a quandary, or Catch-22 perhaps. There is/was an R1T listed in the shop very close to my configuration. However, it does not include the manual tonneau cover. I would like to get the cover, so if I were to purchase this vehicle, I would need to purchase the cover from the shop. Given what happened to crossbar pricing, I assume that I would be paying “post price increase” pricing for this accessory. I believe that this pricing is now $1800? My configuration prices it at $800.
I have em my guide concerning this and no response so far. Would anyone here have insight into this?
Regards.

Sounds like a good question for your guide.

They're aware of this and trying to come up with more guidance on the small group of customers who took delivery early and lost gear shop price protection.

I am not doing anything or buying anything until they give clarification how we can get our original prices for gear.

This is dating me a bit, but I remember an episode of Night Court where these hillbillies (The Wheelers) land a huge inheritance and proceed to get snookered into using it all to buy the news stand in the cafeteria.

Except, to make up for how much they spent on the news stand - they had to mark everything WAY up - like $2,000 for a candy bar.

Given Rivian is spending $150,000 for each R1T they are selling for ~$95K (or for early reservation holders ~$70K) it isn't surprising they are marking up the tonneau covers.

I posed the exact same question to Rivian customer service 4 months ago and I was told if I purchased one of the R1 shop vehicles without a tonneau cover, I would have to purchase it from the gear shop at current pricing which as you correctly mentioned is $1,000 more.

We received a email in November 2022 I believe. It stated any gear removed from our config would be made available in the gear shop at the pre march pricing that was in our configurations. How they are going to prove who had specific accessories in their configurations is beyond me. I kept a pdf of my original config with the pricing listed. Personally I am concerned about the spare which was $800 at the time I had it in my config, no pricing in the shop as of yet. I asked my guide about it and she had no info, but said I would likely have to pay whatever the price in the shop is.. counter to what the official Rivian email said.

They know what you had.

On the day they opened my 8 steps last week, they sent me an email saying I could buy the gear they removed from my config in the shop at the original price. And then included a list of the items that I had previously configured with links to the shop.

At the time, the prices were original. But as of today they are not.

Thank you to everyone for your responses.
I think that, if nothing else, this reinforces the notion that Rivian can take something that is and should be relatively straightforward and making it complicated and difficult. My Estimated Delivery is May-June of 2023. It is July 2023. If I opt for a shop vehidle, that could be eight weeks. Roll the dice?
From my experience the folks that are guides and on the phone or chat are very nice people. However, it seems that Rivian puts them in a position where they cannot really address many issues and questions satisfactorily. Perhaps instead of raising accessory prices to existing order holders, they should eliminate the guide and chat positions and, if these folks accept to do so, find a position in the company where they can be more productive?

Curious if anyone has an update on this? My guide was initially slow to respond to my initial 8-step inquiry (four days from my initial question until first response) which didn't matter much to me since my S is on the train and I assumed it'd take a few weeks.

When I tried to order the crossbars from this email that mentions preorder price(s), I couldn't get the original price. This was sent out soon after I selected my vehicle from the shop.

Rivian R1T R1S Accessory pricing from shop Screenshot 2023-07-18 at 8.21.18 PM

I asked my guide (forwarding that email), and he said to just add the crossbars back to my configuration. I then sent him a screenshot of my 8-steps view which doesn't seem to allow any changes to the configuration. No response.

Today, I pinged again, telling him that I had an acquaintance that was in the same boat and successfully got the crossbars added back at preorder pricing. Guide replied saying he has no idea how to do that and that I should just order from the gear shop.

So then I asked my acquaintance to please screenshot me her exchange which I forwarded. Hoping the more or less step-by-step guide will move things along. Awaiting to hear back.

Hey ******,
I can add them to your vehicle order to obtain the lower pricing based on your preorder date. l'I have to update your Purchase Agreement since it will be attached to your vehicle order, and you can choose to pay separately within your payment step for them or roll them into your current financing with Rivian. Best to order the mats and cargo cover in your cart as well when you can so those can ship out before your vehicle is ready.

Does anyone have a list of the cost of the accessories below before the price hike. I can't rember what the original prices were and they did not list the original pricing in my letter when they took them out of the confugurator:

Cargo cross bars
Feild kit
Floor mats R1S
Compact spare

Thanks in advance.
Still have no Idea how to restore them at the promised original price.

Thanks for posting this.

I'd asked my guide about the compact spare that was removed from my preorder and now am in the process of picking the vehicle up, if it could be added back. His response was the same as your guide's. My guide did say that the compact spare is not available so just keep checking the Gear Shop.

You email clearly states that spare tire is not available yet so maybe I'll get an email notification once its available, even after the delivery so I don't have to keep checking the gear shop.

Just to keep folks in the loop, my guide's response to not being able to get the crossbars back into my order. So just waiting:

There was an error with the link in that email. We are awaiting our team at Rivian to issue a new email with a link that will take you to the adventure gear shop with the pre-increase pricing. I apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for your patience and that updated email should be forthcoming soon.

My guide just updated my order to include the crossbars. $450.

Mats are the same price so was advised to go through the gear shop.

Your guide can add it back to your order if you get the email saying you are ready to get it built or they can add it to your R1 shop order at the old price.
