Hi All,
I am insured by Allstate at the moment and my truck is registered as a commercial vehicle when I purchased it through Rivian. I questioned it back then but never got an answer from guide why. Allstate is cancelling all commercial policy's as they come up for renewal in the state of California. My understanding is that commercial vehicles classify as anything over 10,001 GVW and carries more then 15 people so NOT SURE WHY Rivian sold it that way!

I'd like to hear from a few of you if your truck is registered as a commercial vehicle or a car. My insurance currently is with Allstate at $2200 a year with $500K compressive is jumping over $3600 a year on the few quotes I have received so far. Just seeing if it's worth going down to DMV to get it changed to a car?

The insurance market on a whole is having lots of problems but especially here in California. RIVIAN quite was very high at the time of purchase so I didn't go that route since it was purchased by my company.

I'm guessing this is your first pickup truck? All pickup trucks are registered as a commercial vehicle in CA.

The guideline from DMV STATES vehicles over 10,000 lbs is the criteria on the website! Something to consider

The way CA spins it is you pay for ability to carry/tow commercial payloads, not your intended usage.

Picking up R1T tomorrow. I’ll be using the comercial parking when I need to run errands (hello yellow 20 min zone).

I guess that partly explains the less number of pickups in CA. Good!

Absent California doing silly California things, this would be enough to require commercial registration and insurance in any number of states.

just be glad you didn't have a claim with all state, they're god awful, some lady hit me she has allstate, so I'm dealing with them..... all insurance carriers pretty much suck, so I'm not claiming any one is amazing but all state couldn't care less about getting me taken care of, the accident was 6/28, it took them nearly till August to do anything, and I had to give the directions to the lady who hit me on how to make an appt to contact the all state adjuster because for a month the all state adjuster never once tried to call her so they could accept liability.
