Probably worth seeing what happens if you put some upward load on it too, like what will happen if you drag it off-road.
Good point, and duly noted, but for my use case...and I suspect many others like me, I don't intend to do frequent extreme/hardcore off-roading that makes me more susceptible to dragging/banging my tail on a regular basis. For me, if I bang or drag it a few times while on trails, and the setup holds up...which I feel confident it will, then that's a huge win for me. But there is definitely a case for others to pony-up the $$$ and pay for those other dedicated options if they're planning on doing more extreme adventures on a regular basis. Still...not a bad idea to maybe take a jack to the setup and do a mild test of upward pressure to see how it holds up ?. Good idea ?

Thanks for sharing this idea. I've had the 1UpUSA RakAttach swing out for a couple years, here's their latest version https://1up-usa.com/product/rakattach-2-0 , so I'll give the Etrailer spare tire carrier a shot with my Rivian 20" AT full size spare tire https://www.etrailer.com/Spare-Tire-Carrier/etrailer/e98ZR.html and report back here how it goes . . . perhaps a week from now looking at shipping times.
That 1Up hitch swing looks like a solid, well-built option as well. Should pair nicely with the tire carrier ?

More about making sure it won't immediately smash out your rear window.

I took a look at the E trailer mount and their anti wobble pin, any concerns of people undoing it and taking your spare? Still interested to see if you are able to see anything in the reverse camera. I got my kuat and my spare, just need the mount now.

eTrailer has an option that I think I'll try out to secure the carrier to the hitch swing, AND which also serves as an anti-wobble pin: https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hitch-Lock/Lets-Go-Aero/63232.html, as well as a spare tire lock for when the tire is mounted to the carrier: https://www.etrailer.com/Spare-Tire-Locks/etrailer/e98892.html.

In reference to your question re: backup camera views...here you go...and this was fully expected:

So here's the latest on my newly converted off-road setup...

Everything worked out exactly as I had hoped! I'm just going to add a few security-related items later, but this setup is functional...and sturdy. NOTE: I'll mount my license directly to the upper part of the hitch swing arm, to the right of the spare.

-Kuat Pivot v2 hitch swing
-eTrailer spare tire carrier

-275/60/20 Falken Wildpeak AT3W

Thanks for the back up camera pictures! All things considered it isn't terrible. Might get a bit worse if you end up cutting the carrier closer.

Have you figured out a solution to attach your license plate? I was thinking I might just zip tie the front plate holder on the arm.

This is actually way better than I expected to see with your solution. I don't think I have a photo of mine but I originally opted to keep the wheel quite a bit lower.

Totally agree with that consideration if/when I trim the carrier shank to bring it closer...but the other good thing is that I can always shift the carrier back if needed/desired.

Here's where I'm going to simply drill two holes and mount my license plate to the upper swing arm:

OP, that is an excellent, affordable option for the main problem of R1S carrying a fullsize spare along with a bike rack. I would duplicate this in a heartbeat - if I didn't also want provisions to carry a spare and tow. That is what makes those expensive solutions more worthwhile.

Temporary measure for newbie:

I think I saw a YouTube video from Riviandad or another owner doing this and just wanted to try it myself. This is a 20” AT upright in the empty spare well. It literally fits like a glove and the built in tie downs are perfect for securing. Still decent cargo space with back row folded, and recovery gear goes to the frunk. It will at least buy sometime until more options are available. Downside are loss of cargo, potential of sticking filthy blowout into the well, and perpetual rubber smell in cabin.

I was going to get the setup that OP has, but I’m concerned about the dynamic stress in the lateral direction if there is a lot of yaw during trial riding. I get tossed around just taking speed bumps at an angle lol. The eTrailer spare mount, I think, is rated for 200 lbs, but is that just directly over the mount? Any concern from OP?
