Congratulations on your new R1S!

I'm planning to try a usb-c on/off toggle like this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C9J8CT3Y/

I've ordered it but it hasn't arrived yet. Otherwise, yes, I have just been pulling the cord for the time being. I haven't tried the OBD adapter.
Just found this post that indicates OBD power turns off after 10 min or so of leaving vehicle. Might be another solution.

I got a Roadtrip unit today and installed it. I did it a little differently though, see pictures. I didn't love having it block any of my view and it's within easy reach where I installed it Need to see if the adhesive on the base will hold, if not, I can screw in place.

I am having intermittent BT audio choppiness when playing music, turning the Rivian BT off and on again seems to fix it. I am having a major issue with call audio however, it is completely garbled, sounds like an android talking, totally unusable. Seems to be an issue between the unit and the Rivian's BT. Have contacted them to see if they can help, I suspect it has something to do with the bluetooth stack on the unit. Has anyone else encountered this?

If I can get the call audio sorted out, I'll be very happy with this solution. It's not 100% perfect but it does make it a lot more functional, plus it solves my wife and I wanting to have our own Spotify playlists, contact lists, etc.

Looks great. Had a similar idea, but my R1S doesn’t have 12V under the dash… any thoughts for power? Hate running cables from the console.

I'm using this (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B2ZPNX6Z?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details) for OBD power, running under the mat. I wish it was a little longer, but I like the switch since it doesn't seem to ever kill the power from that port (vehicle doesn't sleep if I forget to turn it off). I was still able to mount on both sides with double stick velcro, so it doesn't look like a mess.

I mounted the cartop under the center ac vents as suggested by others - I used this adhesive (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LXLHU9O?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1) along the top edge and on the suction cup of the included mounting bracket - it seems pretty solid.

I'm still not in love with the positioning, but I think it's the best option. Hopefully they incorporate Waze as a native Rivian app one day and I can get rid of it. Waze serves as my radar detector, plus I love the safety oriented notifications too (object in road, animals on side of road, etc.).

I do have the BT audio choppiness problem every time I turn it on - just have to cycle the Rivian BT off and then on again, which always fixes it.

That's unfortunate that it does not turn off with OBD. I've been meaning to try that.

BTW, for anyone that might be choosing to go the usb-c power route this little on/off toggle switch above works great.

I'm in the same place. It's definitely a bluetooth compatibility issue between the unit and Rivian, I tried this CarlinKit A1 Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto Dongle with an android tablet to see if that would work and it worked flawlessly, so the Rivian can make it work, just need a compatible Bluetooth stack

I've ordered this unit and will return the Roadtop unit: Wireless Apple Carplay & Android Auto

I will post an update on how it turns out. Shame about the Roadtop unit though, was the perfect dimensions and their support was really responsive.

Have you succeeded with the new one? I’m trying to connect to my R1S but struggling. No issues connecting with phone etc but can’t get vehicle to find the unit for Bluetooth audio. Any tips/ tricks? Much appreciated!

Interesting! How’s the mount under the dash holding up?
FWIW, I prefer the OP's mounting location. For me it only blocks my view of part of the hood and I like to have most of my vision on the road while glancing over at the carplay. Although I'd be interested in the experience of folks that have gone with the lower mount location.
