I don’t understand why we have a line drawing of the battery and a whole tile devoted to battery temperature. Does anyone else think it would be better to do something like this crude mockup so that a tile is freed up for something else?

That way you can get battery temp in off road mode, and maybe tilt in on road mode with the tile that’s freed up.

It seems like those tiles on the right are designed to scroll up and down (they scroll slightly if you drag them in the vertical) so I also wonder if more tiles get added in the future or if you will be able to drag them I to position to determine which ones you want displayed at the top.

Exactly. They could easily put pitch and roll on the same tile too. That way all info was available at all times.

Speaking of customizing tiles, maybe the trip tile could have a third choice at the bottom for… odometer?

Rivian UI designers: bravo for moving the main controls closer to the driver! I like the driver focus and it feels like the time spent interacting with the screen will be reduced which is also appreciated. However, why put the tiles which may permit interaction at the far right and the vehicle graphic which isn’t interactive in the middle? I think it would be better to have a 3x3 grid of tiles in the middle and move the vehicle graphic to the right. I know we might sacrifice some of the logo outline graphics but I doubt any owners would complain. Something like this equally-amateurish mockup:

Of course future UI changes are assuredly in the works and I look forward to seeing what Rivian introduces.

That just reminds me when I had my Spark EV you could see battery data off the OBD port. Not likely each cell, but there were a ton of voltage and temperature records across the pack.

Rivian has a lot more than just one sensor too. I imagine they are just presenting an average instead of a max or min. It's probably possible for them to present all the individual cell group voltages (I think there are 108?). I'd definitely be interested in having a torque-pro like screen where everything including the position of the data and type of display could be customized.

This was the data I was typically displaying when I had my Bolt EV and was doing charging stuff.

I strongly suspect they are heading in the customizable tile/widget direction. I think it would make a lot of people happy.

Like this! could go further at move motor temps to sides of wheels. now two extra spots for pitch and roll in all modes

That would be outstanding! Especially if you give people a way to customize the vehicle info since some may want motor temps but not battery temp, some the opposite, some both, and some none.

In general, I think Rivian forced us into having a lot of empty space, but with thin fonts. This update seems to be a nice departure where they are allowing more dense information display and I like the font weight they are using in those tiles.

I should mention that I am VERY happy with this update and I truly appreciate the work done by the Rivian developers. This isn’t meant to be harsh criticism as much as spitballing ideas for potential improvements. It could be that if someone from Rivian is reading this they’re thinking one of two things:
  • We’re 2 steps ahead of you, dumbass, but nice try at UI improvements.
  • (One team member who suggested this and was shot down)

Yeah one of my complaints is that there are only two trips available (A/B) and no "lifetime" option. So I keep trip B as my "lifetime" odo (so I can keep track of efficiency etc.) and use Trip A for my seasonal tire changeovers, but that means I can't use anything for actual road trips. Would love A/B/Lifetime.
