Here it is, folks. Right from the source. I asked Rivian PR for comment and this is their response as if Wassym’s remark on Reddit wasn’t sufficient.

TL;DR, all Dual Motor vehicles will be getting the gauge screen.
Thanks Quinn! Appreciate you reaching out.

Yes, there is a difference. You pay $5000 extra for more horsepower. That’s it
If Rivian is smart that won't be the only reason. Premium vehicle should have a better software stack. When their new Ascent trim comes out I expect them to treat that one even better than my current quad. Instead of whining about being treated differently I'll just buy the better one or deal with it. Who am I kidding I'll be buying the better one.
Welp. Thankfully, Rivian does not feel the way you seem to, and is correcting the problem.
This time. Get ready, next time they will be doing better with their press release differentiating them.

I think we're not that far away from features that are locked behind a subscription service, and I'm not looking forward to finding out how much that stuff is going to cost.

This thread should just be closed. Rivian pulling through for the DM crowd. Case closed.
(But people better be ready for differences to occur in the future)

Honestly, I'd prefer that vs. shutting out Dual Motors.

I mean there are already differences that make sense for differentiation.. for example

Sport mode for the performance DM, QM
Sand mode for DM AT pkg, QM
Rock crawl, rally etc for the QM

I am sure there will be more, this one just didn't make sense.

What if it's "Quad gets these for free but dual motor have to subscribe"?

Me either because I'm most likely going to buy them.

Good question. I don't like it but can't really explain why. I guess my logic is the software team should be properly incentivized to develop new features that people are willing to pay for, and that works better when the addressable population is larger vs. smaller?

If it’s a dual motor in a different/ lower package (trim) level than the Adventure then that could make sense. If it’s done upfront and communicated at time of sale.

The dual motor IS a lower package. Sorry to break it to you but less power+less cost equals lower package.

It’s the same package with a higher cost option for the 4 motors. Look at the Rivian website, it’s the adventure package. That applies to every single R1T currently. Yes it’s more expensive, yes it has an additional option for the 4 motors, and yes you get some additional capability because of the hardware, it’s still the same package level (we were previously using the term trim, Rivian calls it a package). Please by all means, when you’re driving around in your cool quad motor Rivian, continue to feel like you’re a superior class of person to the lowly dual motor Rivians because you spent more money. But don’t wish for someone to get less for their money to make you feel better.

Its not the fucking same and repeating it a million times doesn't change facts. If you want the premium product open your wallet. Stop whining.

Maybe you forget what the Explore package was before Rivian cancelled it, but it was mostly about different interior materials and treatments than anything technical.

I’m not whining, I’m stating a fact that is clearly presented on the website. Did you also stomp your feet when you typed that?

Exactly, that’s what makes a different trim level/ level of package. My argument isnt where the quad should cost more or be more capable (it should absolutely be). It’s that the level of support should be the same. I paid less because I got 2 fewer motors and less power. Not because it was advertised that I would be receiving less support. I understand Rivian has addressed it for this case. I’m just trying to state how I shouldn’t have to pay more for a similar service when the cost differential goes towards the hardware.
