*Checks the date*. Nope, it's not April any more.Rivian delivered something on time! ?
In all seriousness, I fully support their move. Having free charging makes for a poor user experience because of bad incentives so people use the limited DCFC stations inappropriately.
Well my app is showing them all free again. Maybe this was a mistake and it is actually coming s00n.I was hoping this rollout would drag on as another example of the "s00n" timeline.
That said I am pleasantly surprised to see that even RAN locations in CA are listed at $.36/kWh rather than some special inflated price for the golden state.
You may want to close the app and reopen it. Mine shows charge rates.Well my app is showing them all free again. Maybe this was a mistake and it is actually coming s00n.
Tesla charges variable rates based on location and time of day. The rate is lower than some Superchargers and higher than some others. That rate is much better than Teslas…
It is not like it is a ton of money. If you get 2 miles per kW, 1000 miles is $180. ??Crap. I knew I should have charged up last night after setting up in the campground 1/2 mile from the RAN, rather than waiting for morning to charge. ?
Also annoying because I’m now on the stretch of my return leg of my road trip, and just entered the section that I’ll be able to get home solely on RAN. I had expected this leg to be free. Now I’ll have five charge stops that will cost me money I hadn’t anticipated even the day I started my return trip. (The announcement “billing in Early Nov” was made the day I started my drive home. If I had known the exact date, I probably would have skipped a day of sightseeing and made a couple days 10-12 instead of 6-8 hour driving days, and been home last night.)
Edit: I should note, I am typing this at a RAN that is billing me $0.36/kWh as I type this, and the Rivian app shows all the ones remaining along my route at the same price.
Edit 2: WTF, Rivian app? Sites in the app are flipping between paid and free every other time I check in the app in less than five minutes. Including the one I’m currently at that all stalls show $0.36/kWh.
It should just bill your credit card associated with the account. That is how the EVgo charge works.I wonder how charges show up on our Rivian accounts. Has anyone actually tried paying for a RAN yet?
That’s great, hope the app keeps track of billing. I also noticed there is now a way to select an open station and start a charge from the app. Maybe I missed that before. I wonder what the purpose is since it’s otherwise plug-and-charge.It should just bill your credit card associated with the account. That is how the EVgo charge works.
Sounds like you’ve already gotten to enjoy a lot of free charging already. You could always go to EA or something if you’d like.Crap. I knew I should have charged up last night after setting up in the campground 1/2 mile from the RAN, rather than waiting for morning to charge. ?

same as electrify America with the monthly membership-IF IT'S FAST worth it!Looks like charging costs are live for RAN sites in Virginia, at least in the app. I feel like this is fair pricing

Interesting. If RAN was closer I'd drive my Polestar up and see if I could start the charger on it.I also noticed there is now a way to select an open station and start a charge from the app.
Not free. Just reboot your mobile.Weird. I closed, signed out and back in and CO RANs still show free.
Literally going in and out of the charging site information yields different results. Either it's a bug here or they are having some serious complications on the server side data. Not free. Just reboot your mobile.
