I will be a new R1T owner as of T-Day 2023 and have never owned an EV or any vehicle with enhanced anti-theft functions. Bear with me with this perhaps naïve question:

If someone points a gun at me and demands my key card, carabiner, or phone to control the truck how do I block their use? Will giving them the "keys" enable their full access? Is there a password I can implement? Will tracking assist Rivian in finding the stolen truck?
Thanks in advance for your help; I plan to keep bear spray in the door pouch regardless.

.45 ACP right hip.

Not a lot of car-jacking here in Southern Oregon because that is kind of the norm here...

Well first don’t risk your life.

however second I suppose you should keep your key card with you, and if someone demands your truck then you just give the key card. The app has a location function. But also if the app has it. I’m sure Rivian can track it too if they also demand your phone.

That begs the question, is there a Find my Car app that you could use on a computer (not phone if taken with car) to locate your Rivian if taken?

Vulnerable situation is charging at a shady EA/Walmart station. You are plugged in, so basically sitting duck for a robbery "attempt". So either give up your wallet/vehicle and hopefully live another day or be armed.

Don't want to dismiss the OPs concern but the odds of this happening are extremely low. However, if it did happen give up the keycard or fob. Phone app will show current vehicle location. Lose your phone too? Hopefully you have a 2nd driver assigned and can follow vehicle location on their phone

Don't get killed over a vehicle or any other possession. Unless you can drive or run away just let them have it.

Agree with others, just a vehicle let them have it. Once they do you can install the Rivian app on an another phone or iPad, log into your account and you can see the vehicle and manage your keys.

Maybe they could add a silent alarm type option. This would allow the vehicle to behave normally for a set distance then start throwing errors on the instrument cluster / reduce performance so the vehicle is effectively playing dead. Once stopped it could flash all lights and honk the (not especially attention-getting on newer builds) horn. You’d be able to get to safety as they drive off and I suspect the thieves would quickly bail. Bonus points if the vehicle can start playing a message, “This vehicle is stolen.” in multiple languages via the external PWS speakers and the stereo, loudly.

Ultimately, it’s a possession which can be replaced. Unless there‘s another person or a pet strapped in I’d just let them take it and start figuring out what color to get for the next one.
