I posted this over on reddit, so I apologize if this violates any rules. I know many are curious about the max pack.

Rivian R1T R1S 90 mile Max Pack test drive - efficiency results at 69 mph r1-start

I don't have any road trips planned for a while but wanted to get a sense of what the real range of the max pack might be so I headed out on a 45 mile loop on the highway at 75 mph. I kept that speed for most of the way, slowing down to 65 mph for a couple towns.

Truck has 21 inch wheels with aeros on for test. Set the truck to all purpose mode with a low ride height. Used adaptive cruise control for most of the drive. Temperature was 61 degrees with minimal headwind. The road was a little slick from some sprinkling.

Reset Trip A and drove 45 miles out and 45 miles back. The end result being.

Total Distance: 91.1 miles

Average Speed: 69 mph

Duration: 1 hr 19 min

Efficiency: 2.34 mi/kWh

Total Energy: 38.8 kWh

If the battery is 142 kWh useable that would come to around 333 miles on a full charge. That feels a little low to me, but it wasn't a perfect test as it wasn't 100 to 0.

Overall the truck drove great, but a little disappointed at the range at 69 mph.

Your average speed is 69 mph, not 75 mph.

Is yours DM or QM?

Thanks for posting your results. That’s about what I would expect. That is pretty typical efficiency for that speed.

The truck is still worth the price of max pack I feel. Given current available data though can't recommend max pack upcharge. Those who can afford and feel its worth it should go for it though.

To get rated range you would need to be getting efficiency of about 2.9 mi per kwh. Not impossible but not likely repeatable very often and not at 75. At 60 or 65 efficiency should be much better but the rated range would likely only come in low speed stop and go travel.

333 miles would be pretty good for wet roads and 61F ambient temps at those speeds.

According to this charge test 104kw delivered from 1-70% means the usable pack is about 149kw.
118.6kw delivered 1-80% also reads that way. 118.6*10/8+1

I did this quite a few times driving Dallas to Norman. QM 21" average around 2.30 ish. mi/kwh. Was driving mostly 75 to 80 mph. My average speed was at 70 mph too since there were some sections I have to slow down. Rivian's best efficiency is around 65 to 70 imo.

I was very impressed with the range on a trip to the Pittsburgh area. It was roughly 70% highway, the rest mostly overland with very little city and I was practically always aiming for 5 to 10mph over the speed limit, except for the last 100 miles of highway where I stuck to the speed limit. (Limit was mostly 70, some 65 very little 55). Left Wednesday with 410 miles and returned Friday with 2miles remaining. Conditions where ideal, not much heat and no A/C needed, practically no wind. Total trip distance was 359miles and if I had observed the speed limit on the entire trip, my range would have been close to 410miles.

edited original post, had a math error and trip was "only" 359 miles. Still pretty good

I doubt best efficiency is around that, more likely around 30 MPH, but that is of course unrealistic, but slower is better on the highway.
