I’m a post-hike price reservation, Oct 2022. My current confirmed config is a dual motor performance R1S. I’m having second thoughts on the dual motor and want to which to a quad. Considering the cost of a new dual motor performance is about $98K, a used quad between $89K-$93K sounds better. I assume I will lose my deposit since I already confirmed my config but considering the cost differences, its a better deal. Has anyone done this? Any issues with the reservation with Rivian? Can someone please confirm my thinking?

Thank you.

Used quad. IMO if you want the performance version you’re going to want maximum performance, and the quad is pretty significantly quicker.

Both are very capable drivetrains. The quad is of course the most powerful with 835 HP and 908 Lb Ft Torque. Quad also has an extra 25,000 miles warranty.

Dual motor is more efficient in All Purpose mode since it can engage/disengage the rear motor on demand. The quad requires conserve to be most efficient which locks out the rear motor and limits power.

We are very happy with our quads but DMP is only half a second slower 0-60.

I love the sound of the quad motors ?

Are the quads as loud as I’ve read about? Is this the sound you are referring to? ;)

I have a Tesla Performance and 0-60 is 3.5s. I cannot imagine what 3s feels like.

I would go with the used quad, but if you really want that fresh new car smell you aren’t losing much performance going with a dual motor. I doubt anyone would really notice a difference between a quad and a dual model performance.

Id disagree we have a model Y performance and the drivetrain is quite a bit quieter than the quad motor R1T. There’s a number of auto reviews discussing the sound of the motors, I don’t find it intrusive but it’s definitely among the louder electric vehicles.

I‘ve seen this mentioned as well. But, we are talking about a dual vs quad. Should this be expected?

I saw the out of spec review where he rode in the dual and quad R1T back to back. Stated the dual was noticeably quieter. I have no personal experience with it. I think motors, insulation, and of course number will impact sound.

I'm selling my quad R1S and I ordered a dual R1T and I too am concerned about whether I will like the dual motor. I've been going back and forth on switching to a quad. The quad motor is awesome in all ways possible.

I haven’t consider the R1T but do like it. I have never owned a pickup. I’m an SUV guy but it’s tempting.
