Funny, i just had my first tire rotation - after one year and 17k miles. Steering wheel vibrates above 80MPH. If i go to 78, it stops. Above 90, less noticeable, but sample size a lot lower. Hoping it stops soon. It’s annoying.
What about above 100?

Car seems to ride lower above 90. When I’ve been over 100 I haven’t noticed it.

Dropped my R1T at the SC due to highway shake and camera issues (1 week post delivery). The SC checked all the tires and ended up replacing 2 of them due to poor balance on their machine. They were bad enough to just replace rather than attempt to fix. As others have posted, tires seem to be a continual issue. Will see next week whether this helps with the shake.
Just picked up my R1T at the SC. They replaced 2 tires they said failed the Road Force test.
I was hopeful this would solve the issue, but unfortunately the shake persists.
Again only above ~70 mph. Car itself is smooth just the steering wheel that starts shaking significantly.

Working with customer service, SC on a resolution vs returning the vehicle. BTW the R1T was at the SC for 17 days before service was completed. They also replaced a module due to malfunctioning cameras.

I didn't notice the shake upon factory pickup, BUT pretty soon after I found the shaking at 70+ mph. Its pretty bad sometimes and really makes me wonder a bit on the quality of the vehicle. I took it in for service a few months ago for a variety of little things, and they ended up replacing all 4 of the stock pirelli tires saying they could not get them to balance.

This really did nothing as sometimes I get the shakes at 60+ now and the same as before. I have another service appt. coming up in Sept. and I really feel like this is a big issue they have got to get fixed. I drive highway speeds a decent amount and watching the wheel shake just makes the whole car feel cheap, especially when driving my wifes Navigator or whatever and its smooth as glass.

I plan on getting a road force balancing if this issue isn't resolved by Rivian at this appt.

Side note: I ran into someone w/ my exact config the other day and asked if they experienced any of the shaking, and they don't (and some of my friends with R1Ts don't have issues as well), so just wondering what could be the case. Will try to come back to this thread if I get it resolved.

Not joking.. there is an alternate heavier version of the standard Rivian steering wheel that is supposed to "fix" wheel shake in vehicles where all other corrective remedies have failed.. I kid you not! I'd at least inquire about it if you've exhausted all other options.

For the people who had their wheels balanced and then alignment done by rivian...and still had this problem -- did you ever figure out what the issue was?

I’ve had Rivian replace my steering wheel for a heavier one over the summer. Had my tires road force balanced at America’s Tire. Those combined got rid of my shakes

well, i picked up a R1T from the factory with 21 wheels and drove it 2000+ miles. it was straight as an arrow and no wobble at highways speeds, then i decided i wanted the 22" and that introduced two things: pulled to the right slightly and steering wheel shake at 90+ mph. I got the balance fixed but was told the shake is normal on 22. I mean it is not that big, but wish it was as smooth as i remember on 21.

Interesting. Rivian told me it was a known issue for the 21s. That was a year ago or so. They might have addressed it then. Sorry to hear about the issue with the 22s.

I had it on my 20's as well. Had an alignment/rebalance done - which helped a bit. In the end, just giving it some time evened everything up and made it smooth.

Hi all,
September '23 R1S with 20" AT with wobble at any speed above 30mph. Tire balancing at America's tire (twice) then Big Brand Tire (w alignment) then local Tire shop, eventually to Rivian sc. Issue still there.
Got a heavier steering wheel. Issue still there.
Now 3000 miles. Went again to Rivian SC, changed 2 Tire and a rim, Issue still there.
Changed tires for Yokohama Geolandar, Issue still there.
I read comments of this going away after mileage but I don't like this experience at all, especially at this price point. Any car I have driven in my life cheap or fancy hasn't had this wheel jittery feel.
I fear mechanical failure somewhere. I own a Tesla Model x with air suspensions and had to change cv axles, and suspension components to make vibrations and clunk noises go away after 40k miles. Just bad design.

Now 3500 miles and at Rivian SC for third time, 2 weeks in they say again Tire balance fixed it and it's ready for pick up? So basically Rivian sc says fixed for third time but their definition of "fixed" isn't the same as mine.

I think this is a lemon law instance.

I basically have the same issue since 3000 miles, and now I have 20,000 miles. I can tell you it is not the tires, not wheel balance, not alignment related. The wobble is random, at same speed, sometimes it is smooth and sometimes it wobbles like the wheel is going to fall off the truck.

I had my tires rotated, road forced balance, alignment for at least 5 times by SC and my local shop. I had different wheels, I put AS tires and the wobble is still there.

SC replaced with a heavier steering wheel and the wobble is still there.

SC also replaced my front motors due to a leak and the wobble is still there.

I was at some point gave up and live with it, but now I am trying to sell my truck and I have to trade this in for a really low value. I don’t know how to sell this privately and pass the issue to the buyer by not telling the buyer.

I don’t have any shake, but requested a rotation at Rivian during my SC visit. Now I’m a little nervous to have them do it. Apparently they don’t balance so I’m paying for rotation and will have to pay again for balancing at American tire. Maybe I should just go there for both.
