I feel like your neighbors are going to call the HOA and report you for trying to run a car sales business out of your home :D

I'm still waiting for @Count Orlok to finish up his DC charger install so I can justify doing the same thing. "Look, I'm not the only crazy that installed one of these in his garage!"
Did you start a thread about how you did this? I can't imagine I would ever do it myself, but it is a very interesting project that I would like to put on my "maybe one day" list.

I strongly prefer a higher ride and extra space (I’m not one of those…how do you say it… petite fellas). ?

Sports car has crossed my mind, but once my kids are grown up…I have a 5 and 11 year old.

Whoa - this thread blew up. LOL.

We bought the Red Canyon R1S, which was a preorder, in 7/2023. The plan was always to ship that to our house in Kona. We just wanted to QA it here in Phoenix, where there is a Rivian Service Center. The Hawaii Rivian Service Center in Honolulu is supposed to open in the Summer 2024 and there are already a handful of Rivians throughout the Hawaii Islands. The Red Canyon R1S has been solid since delivery and we're ready to ship it - and hope to do so just after the holidays.

My wife was driving a 2020 Tesla Model 3 Performance. It was just about to come out of warranty. It's been a solid car and she prefers a midsized vehicle - and while an Extended Service Agreement is available through Tesla, I'm personally done with Tesla vehicles (but admittedly happy to have upcoming Supercharger access).

So, we started car shopping. In brief, the Fisker Ocean was the original plan, but it's just too iffy. I suggested an i4, but my wife could NOT get over the gopher teeth front grill, which she called "hideous. I can't get over that." We were then down to the Polestar 2 and Genesis GV60. My brother has a Polestar 2. Lovely vehicle, but resale value had us a bit concerned. We were close on the GV60, but couldn't get past the sub-300 mile range.

Although my wife prefers a mid-sized, she's been driving the R1S as her primary vehicle since we took delivery. She's used to it and is comfortable with parking because of the Bird's Eye View cameras. She loves the visibility with the higher ride height, so I suggested we shop for another. We're a bit picky with color so it had to be either Launch Green or Limestone and Ocean Coast interior because we live in a desert most of the time. What really made it work for us is that in Arizona, one does NOT have to pay sales tax on a private party car sale so I started browsing, found one for less than what I paid OTD with TTL for our Red Canyon R1S and made it happen. Sold the Model 3 to a neighbor as well.

Current plan (subject to change of course) is to keep the Red Canyon R1S in Hawaii for a long time. We're only part-time there and buying a car there is just a royal pain in the ass so that's going to be a long-term vehicle. If the R2 is, indeed, smaller we'll probably trade in the Limestone R1S for that since my wife still prefers a smaller vehicle. I plan to keep the R1T for a while unless I'm get super tempted by what I think will be an Enduro Quad Motor Max Pack R1T. I absolutely love my R1T.

It was an unusually overcast Seattle-like day in Phoenix today. Just a few additional photos below. I'm going to post a trip report in a separate post. Good trip, but a few interesting tidbits.

Random notes:
- The UPS delivery drivers asked if me if I worked for Rivian today.
- Both my Phoenix and Kona houses have no HOA's! :)

Trip Report:

Metro Los Angeles, CA (Porter Ranch, CA to be specific) to Phoenix, AZ (419.2 miles)

Vehicle and Configuration:

2023 R1S, Quad, Large, Underbody, 21's without aeros

Driving Style:
Mostly Conserve and 5 mph over the speed limit, so 75 mph in CA and 80 mph in AZ

Rivian Nav:
WHY???
Rivian R1T R1S Well, I just bought a 3rd Rivian 1703303174860

Driver+:
- very good overall. Lane change resume is great. BUT it struggled in construction areas, which is understandable.

Charging Stops:
1) Circle K Palm Desert
78005 Country Club Drive, Palm Desert CA 92211

- The car could have made it to the Quartzite, AZ RAN, but my bladder and energy level could not.
- I had mapped this location previously and signed up though the Circle K app. Entered a CC card as a payment method and everything. However, I still could NOT initiate a charge through the app. Annoying.
- I was able to start a charge via the CC reader on the charging station. Perhaps there was user error on my end on the app, but I'm just glad it worked.
- Circle K restrooms were "out of order."
- Went to the restaurant next door for restroom access. Seemed to be several other options nearby.
- Good speeds advertised as up to 180 kW
- Noticed the tire pressure was a bit low at 44 psi per the car. I used the build in compressor, which read psi's at 40. Was able to fill up the tires conveniently while charging! What a nice perk - and happy I got to test a function in a used car I just bought.
- Charging stats below. I charged up to 85%

2) RAN Quartzite
- Most interesting thing here is that I could NOT initiate a charge!
- Seller told me he had never used a RAN and had "never set it up." We both thought it would just go towards his payment method on file, likely whatever he used for his initial deposit.
- I still got a failure at 2 different charging stations.
- I'm not sure if it's because I had initiated the ownership transfer process with my Guide right when we had the paperwork signed. It's still a mystery.
- BUT, I was able to initiate a charge from the app. Go to Navigate, click on the RAN, choose the charger, and initiate. The app knew my two Rivians were in Phoenix and that I was initiating a charge 130 miles away in Quartzite. This makes me wonder if Rivian owners can initiate a charge on a CCS-equipped non-Rivian?

I'll give Tesla some props. They have a massive Supercharger site just across the street:

Final stretch from Quartzite to Phoenix was uneventful and smooth sailing. Left the RAN at 85% and got home at 43%.

I have been wondering this very thing. The Phoenix RAN is not open, but I am fairly close to Gila Bend. Thinking about taking my Mach E or Hummer there to try it, just for fun. Maybe someone has already tried this.

wow, that is definitely worth checking out. I just got a Taycan and would love for this to be true.
