I just had my windshield replaced at the SC. total cost $1,766.25. Included glass, sensor, recalibration, misc materials and labor. Fully covered by my insurance.
I was just gonna ask if anyone had their own experience that corroborates this clickbait headline.

Still, the price of repairing EVs is going to be a problem that escalates quickly over the next 5-10 years as sales mount and insurance premiums start to reflect the effect on the carrier's bottom lines. My R1S premium is #*%$ing eye watering, I count myself fortunate that it's no big deal. It's going to matter soon.

@Mikebike97 or @Administrator can someone change to title of this thread to clarify that the repair was of the rear window and not the front windshield? This will hopefully eliminate a lot of discussion regarding unrelated front windshield replacements.
I change the title: I hope that addressed you concern.
My point in posting the article had nothing to do with the rear windshield.

Sounds about what it cost for my 2020 Subaru as well. These clickbait articles are so annoying.

Thanks. That partially addresses the issue. People are still going to see the link in your first post and assume the article is about a front windshield repair that cost $4200 and then proceed to tell us how much cheaper their front windshield replacement was. That is both irrelevant to the repair described in the article and a distraction from the point you were hoping to make.

We had a rock hit our windshield and create a large crack. At Rivian's recommendation we went to a nearby, Rivian certified, collision center. They could get us in quickly, Rivian had a two month wait. It took the shop 7 days to get the windshield (OEM from Rivian). When they got it they called us to drop off the truck. They had it for (5) days. One day for the repair and two for them to take it to the Gaithersburg Service Center for the recalibration. (Many shops can't do this step)

Our insurance paid for the whole thing. It was just over $2k, with zero out of pocket. From broken windshield to completely repaired and returned vehicle was less than a month. Some of this is obviously location dependent, but even Rivian's quote to replace the windshield was around $1900.

Maybe simply taking it down.
Too many people have totally missed what the MSN writer was presenting, in my opinion.
My point was this is bad press.
I don’t know how to take it down? Do you?

Didn't Munro uncover that the back glass is so expensive due to labor with having to remove the spoilers at the roof and window edges? That was a design mistake on Rivian's part.

Eh, this guy has been harping about not getting red carpet treatment for a while. Can’t tell if it’s him or his money talking
I happen to personally know Matt Prince. We were law school classmates. He's a down-to-earth guy who likes to use his platform to point out issues he thinks can be improved - including at his own company. Based on the posts in this forum, his complaints are fairly common.

I read his posts on X. They’re not constructive. He can deal with it privately or address it more constructively. Sounds like he’s complaining and whining to me

Complaining and whining is the bedrock of this public forum.

Some fuel for the fire… enjoy
??

So for the record it’s not just the glass, they have to replace the spoiler and the plaque behind the back seat so they also have to remove the back seat. You can still blame Rivian for poor design though I guess.
