Do we know what the cost for the various services is? Assume none are gratis.

A follow-up. I think I saw in one of the Munro videos that there is a filter in the drive unit fluid system. Is filter replacement a part of that service?

Also as a recommendation make sure to test launch mode in sport lowest / stiff mode on a monthly basis. Even if you don't have a launch edition.

When it's safe and you're on a track in Mexico ;) Come to a full stop, hold the brake pedal down and hold the gas pedal down. Only do this when you're on a track, then let go of the brake pedal while holding the gas pedal to the metal and count how long it takes to hit 60 miles per hour.

Do this repeatedly by increasing the top speed by 10 mph until you hit the limiter or run out of juice.

Make sure to wipe the grin off your face when you're done.

Rinse and repeat on a monthly basis.

Cabin filter every few years. I didn't know our gx had one and ten years in after a lot of off road, it was due haha.

Inspect brakes and suspension when the tires get done.

12v battery hopefully lasts 5 years

Wipers at your leisure

Wash and vacuum semi weekly. I'm bad at this.

It will be interesting to see how this develops. Is this a charge service or a no cost service Rivian performs I wonder. And if it is a charge service, I believe that Rivian must publish all required actions, meaning what exactly is required by a "subframe inspection"....what needs to be inspected in the suspension, torque values, etc...

Rivian most definitely can't require a paid for service to maintain warranty coverage, etc...if they force the inspections to happen by them at whatever price they set on those inspections.

Maybe it is no cost and they just want to take a look at everyone they sell at the intervals specified. I will assume that is case till we hear differently.

Why wouldn’t these be paid services? They charge ~$60 just for the tire rotations, so I don’t think there’s any reason to assume the other recommended maintenance services are free.

Doesn’t every other manufacturer pretty much do the same? They don’t force you to do any maintenance, but if you don’t do an oil change for 100k miles and then bring it in for engine problems, I doubt they’d cover it under warranty given how you did no recommended maintenance. For those companies that say free service until X miles, I’m sure the costs are baked in to the purchase price. Nothing is truly free these days.

Thank you. But, I don't see the oil change intervals. Can't believe you overlooked such an important thing.
I know you're trying to be sarcastic, but there is an oil change in that list. The Drive Unit Fluid Change is an oil change. For the sake of not saying "oil" most EV mfgs just call it a fluid.

I stand vindicated! Thank you dear sir.

NB: I'm always looking for a good laugh. Life is too short. Cheers.

Drive Unit Fluid Change
Drains and refills Quad-Motor AWD drive units fluid. This procedure is unnecessary for Dual-Motor AWD vehicles as an integrated filter is monitored by the vehicle.

Another reason I may trade in for PDM: Less maintenance. Why take so long to make this, and why not send an email about it? I'm nearing my second Comprehensive inspection and had no idea.

Simple...consumer protection law.

Anyone can do a tire rotation. You chose to do it at Rivian for whatever they want to charge, but you have options.

If they require checking fasteners, welds, fluid levels, etc...then they cannot require you to pay whatever they decide to charge for it. They have to allow independent shops to perform the work, meaning they have to define the work alot better than I have seen so far.

For example....what if Rivian requires this work to maintain warranty status....which is plausible. And what if they say only they can do it. And what if they say it costs $5k every 22k miles? No options. For obvious reasons, laws exist to prevent that type of behavior from manufacturers. I am just speculating again...maybe Rivian just wants to see 100% of the vehicles the produce back at a shop every 22k or whatever it was....for a free inspection.

How much is the comprehensive deductible on your insurance? Better lower that before you book it!
I really don't want Rivian touching my truck any more than necessary. I do almost all my work on my vehicles myself and seems I have bad luck sometimes when my vehicles are in other peoples possession.

I'm guessing this will run in the $750-$1K range as we have seen Rivian labor rates at $250/hour on some invoices.

Well the good news is it’s finally available. They should put this in the manual if it’s not in the latest version. Curious to see how the pricing shakes out on this? Is it an inspection cost + costs for any identified items requiring a fix (I presume so)? What are these estimates, might as well give us an estimate since these cars are new and it is very likely any required fixes will likely need to be done by a Rivian Service professional anyways.

Helps in identifying the true cost of ownership and maintenance of the vehicle over time …
