Is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth it? That's a personal choice - but I can promise they'll sell as many as they can build for a while.
$80k base price is only a start. More likely closer to $100k with options. It won't out handle or ride better than the gas Macan. There has to be real reasons to switch - price needs to come down or performance upped big time for the base. As it is, you'd be buying the badge.

Some options are much cheaper than Rivian - a white interior for $230 and a good range of colors for under $1000.

I spec'd what I would actually want to buy. $94k.

And I almost guarantee it will out-handle the ICE Macan. It's got a lower CoG and it doesn't have the engine entirely in front of the front axle.

I have a 2017 Macan S, and while it handles better than any other SUV I know of, it is still an understeering mess on initial turn in. It's also got noticable turbo lag and a "pesky transmission" to deal with, so getting power in to help it get back to neutral takes what feels like an eternity.

I could not give less of a crap about the badge. I wanted a comfortable, sporty, feature-rich vehicle for long road trips at high speeds and that could tow a small camper but was small enough to be easy around town.

We cross-shopped the BMW X3, Volvo XC60 and RDX. None even came close to the driving experience even through the Macan S is barely faster than the 4 cylinder RDX.

I want to point out that people were paying $80k for a Model Y just over a year ago.

Long road trips at high speeds that could tow a small camper in a Macan EV? Good luck with that!

$80k? How about $50k. The times are much different now:).

Rivian R1S is $85k+
BMW iX is $88k+
Mercedes EQE is $75k+

The Macan is going to out handle all of them and add range much faster. Yes its much smaller than the R1S, but people cross-shop lots of things, especially when the options are limited.

I would definitely see $30k in value over a Model Y. I'd much rather have a Macan EV than a Model X (also $80k+)

I am surprised people consider this 5-seat hatchback a competitor to the 3-row Rivian SUV but I guess I don't understand how people shop for cars.
Not everyone wants or needs a 3 row SUV. A lot of people consider a third row a drawback if they don't need it. If someone needs a 3rd row, they won't consider the Macan. If they don't need the third row, they may still cross shop with a Rivian. People will cross shop different vehicles in the same price bracket, because they want to consider everything in their price bracket. The Porsche is one of their SUVs, not a 911/Boxter/Cayman.

In the past I cross shopped a Jeep Wrangler vs a VW Golf R, two vastly different vehicles, in the same price bracket, each very good at what it does, each horrible at what the other one does well.

I really do like the turbo version. They made it really visually appealing to me, except for the rear end but that's not terrible. The front and side really show off their design. The performance is there, but it's just too small. I want to have it, but I know I'd hate it coming from this Rivian.

So for me it's either another Rivian or a Range Rover EV when they come out. The Range is supposed to be 800V architecture and while it won't be as quick as my R1 is it will be a hell of a lot more comfortable and have a higher interior quality. Plus I really like what RR has done with the design. They've managed to modernize their design without making it look tacky like the retro-futuristic EQG did.

I will wait for the Cayenne Turbo EV or the Quad Enduro with 1200 hp to upgrade. It's go big or go home for me.

I really liked this Macan until watching the out of spec talk with the designer where he noted no Porsche EVs will have one pedal drive and joked and called it one pedal breaking to stop… what I love about Tesla and Rivian is the one pedal drive, not having that in a EV is a weird Toyota / Lexus move.

The Macan EV Base is super disappointing. It maybe good enough wearing a VW badge, but $80k+ base price for a Base 4 weighing 5300 lbs and a 0-60 performance of 5.1s (4.9s can only be achieved with the optional Launch Control) is neither acceptable nor Porsche worthy.
That isn't the base vehicle, they probably won't release that for a year or so. I semi agree this stated version would be better to start at 70k, but Porsche doesn't care. It costs more than the current S model but less that a GTS model. Being cheaper and more usable than a taycan with more range and tech they will sell them all. It's also bigger than ice macan

It absolutely does ride and handle better that the current ice macan. You do realize for 65k on ice macan you only get a 4 cylinder. And that car drives like pure trash. That's way less reasonable. The ev macan is priced in accordance with the current ice macans. The outgoing platform is almost 15 years old which is why they aren't remaking it. From launch forward the only macan you can get in Europe is an EV one.

Yeah the enduro quad is something I am waiting for an announcement on as well. I think my R1T is hands down the coolest EV pickup out there but I could probably get by with a big SUV. I was never a huge fan of the Cayenne and the turbo is probably going to be 200k if they stick with the pricing of the current one.

That's too much when the Range is expected to start at 120. Mine would probably price out at 140 or so which is still going to be at least 40-50k cheaper than the Cayenne turbo will be most likely. An ICE Cayenne starts at 100.

It will be interesting to see what the Audi Q6 eTron is like since it shares the platform with the Macan and will be priced closer to the R2 with a proposed starting price of around $65k (right in the middle of the Q4 and Q8).

It should be interesting, but it will be too small for me. The price of the Macan turbo isn't the off putting thing for me, it's the size.

The Macan 4 EV is the base model for the line just like the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo is. Being cheaper than the Taycan is not saying much for a base model starting at $80k+ with range and tech middling at best. Unless you go bare bones and forgo all the options, $90K for a lightly optioned Base EV Macan is way above the cost of current ice S. Add a few techs and the price gets close to GTS level while the performance is still at Base. Crazy price.
