For those of us who will not have access to a Rivian Service-Suport Center, is Rivian considering posting video manuals or instructions? I am taking my R1T to Puerto Rico and would like to make sure I can make the best use of all its features. I don’t think that the delivery visit (and even if I get the opportunity of a test drive) will be enough. Having videos on Rivian’s page or on YouTube would be very helpful.
What is your opinion or suggestion?

I wouldn't be surprised to see manual or videos even available in the UI. Pure speculation, but would be cool.

I’d expect that sort of thing to be available through their website, much like every single other auto manufacturer.

soon

I’d think all manuals will be available on the website, as well. Of course, having all materials pre-loaded in the UI would allow access when we’re out of cellular range.

I’m sure they‘ll be in the UI - BMW etc have done this for over a decade now.
What I’d really like is a physical copy. A manual inside the UI is great, until the manual is occupying the screen that also does the thing you’re trying to figure out ?

Although it will likely all be in the phone app too.

@DuckTruck do you recall any mention of manuals/other owner documentation during your factory adventure?

Or, if the thing that needs troubleshooting is the screen itself ...

A user manual/guide will certainly exist and be available to every owner. It will probably be interactive and within the UI and maybe their app. I will be surprised if there’s a physical book nowadays. It might also be available on their website, hopefully as a PDF or something else that can be downloaded to a phone or tablet for offline use.

A service manual is a whole other thing though. I will be very surprised if that is made available to the general public. It will probably be for certified mechanics/shops only.

Service information is required by law to be made available. All manufacturers offer this by subscription. It is geared towards professional users, but anyone can make an account and buy a subscription. It is not cheap.

Ford for example charges ~$325 for a one month subscription, which gets you everything for all models since 1994. They do still sell hardcopies, but they are even more expensive, and hard to get.

JLR charges 170 gbp for a one month single model subscription. I've done this for my land rover despite having a paper manual - the electronic version has larger print, and some procedures have been updated in the last few years despite the vehicle being out of production for almost a decade.

Even Tesla provides service/repair documentation by subscription, I don't know how much they charge as I haven't had to use it.

Thanks! I didn’t realize they’d moved to subscription models, but I guess that’s no surprise. I still remember the olden days of printed books that were very expensive and hard to get access to. Subscription seems more expensive for a vehicle owner, but maybe not as bad for a service shop that might need manuals for every model.

Turns out paper ones aren't as bad as I thought (Helm still publishes them for quite a number of manufacturers), but it you need them for all the models...way more expensive. Single vehicle manual is doable for the home gamer. I do wonder if alldata/mitchell will have rivian stuff available.

Frankly with the Rivian I don't expect to do anything myself despite being very cheap. Since it will require so little routine maintenance, I'm fine with just paying someone to do things like change brake fluid or rotate tires, because that's about all it will need that requires tools. I will never, ever pay to install wiper blades or cabin air filters however.
I'm expecting service rates comparable to other brands.

I don't remember hearing anything there, but I seem to recall hearing previously not to expect a hardcopy. I think I received that feedback here from a number of you when I expressed the hope of a physical copy, but if anyone else has received confirmation from the Engagement Center, please let us know

The old dog in me would still love to have something in print. ?

Drive your Launch green R1T up to Seattle when you get it Sept 1st, and I’ll find a way to print that manual off for you. I’ll even drive you back down to Oregon so you can read it on the way.

Brice, Great to know I'm not the only dreamer in the bunch! Thanks for the great laugh to start off my week!???

People tell me I dream and joke too much, they call me "irrational". I say, "Hey! I'm Irish! I call it 'Irishional' behavior!"
