Hitch Step / rear skid plate installed

I installed this hitch step today. I had to do a slight modification to get it to use the second pin hole and get it as close as possible to the truck.

It provides me with two primary functions and one secondary potential functions

1. A step so I can get into the bed without opening the tailgate
2. A recovery point in case I want to pull someone out

The secondary function is a potential skid plate for a departure drag on the bumper. Still deciding what I think

The recovery loop pushes up against the lip that holds the OEM hitch cover. I put two ~1/8" slits (yellow mark below) on either side of where it makes contact to it so it would bend enough forward to get the hitch pin through.

In principle you could do without this but I wanted it as flush as possible, it would stick out another 1.5"-2"

Regarding the sensors/camera view I haven't noticed anything so far but I haven't driven much yet. Will update the thread if I see any impact.

That looks way more functional than most hitch steps/inserts. Is that top hole large enough to fit a typical D-ring? Thumbsup.

To answer your other question. The step is visible in the rear camera view.

looks good but its unfortunate about the sharp edges on that thing, definitely do not use soft shackles if you need to do a recovery. I've got a similar one that I've had in service for years now on previous trucks, that has nice chamfered edges, but doesnt have the step like that one.
