I have read that for those of us that have locked in pricing (from what pre-March 2022) we get around 21% discount on any config we purchase but the lease doesn’t provide the same discount. I’d be very interested to understand the details of the lease (especially for recent R1S quad/large) for those that have taken advantage of recent lease pricing deals.

Trying to choose between purchase and lease. I don’t plan to put any money down and use the $1000 deposit towards the fees.

Thanks in advance!

I think it’s breaks down to like 20% discount for purchase or 1/3 discount towards a lease.

this makes sense for lease because you’re not paying for the whole car so why would they give you the discount on the entire purchase price.

it works out to like $20,000 discount for quad motor if you buy it and like $6,000-$7,000 discount if you lease it.

keep in mind quad motors / 2023 vehicles have very attractive leasing opportunities due to residual and/or money factor.

I asked my guide this question as well. I was told pre price hike reservation holders get $5000 lease promotion on dual motor variants and $6250 on quad motor variants. That is in addition to the $7500 tax incentive. I was told these numbers are the same for R1T or R1S. Those discounts would be off the current MSRP.

Looks like the discount for the lease term is 6% (~6k) or 1/3rd of the prepricehike 20% voucher. Which makes Sense because the lease term amount is 1/3rd of the purchase price. Now, it would be nice if the residual picked up that remaining 2/3rd's if you were buying outright. But alas.....

If you factor in the 7500 EV lease loophole, it gets you to about 15%.

Question around the sale price and residual as well. Anybody have an example they can share that is pre-price hike pricing, lease for quad, large battery recent with the lease deals that seeming are similar lease cost as dual motor options?

I just paid pre-price-hike cash for a 2024 R1S, trading in a 2023 R1S. The lease money factor was too high - effectively around 7% for the 2024 R1S - for it to make sense for me to least the 2024. Other users report money factor near 0% for the 2023 R1S quad. If you are ok with the 2023, the 2023 R1S quad lease with pre-price-hike discount is an amazing deal.

I just got a quad rt1 and it is 79,000, but the lease is actually cheaper than a 2024 rt1 at 71, 000 dollars. Not sure how that works. Overall the lease is 170 cheaper with the 2023 over the 2024.

Another thing to consider is that if you can get a 2023, Rivian is also giving at extra $4,575 for lease offers. So if you count the $5k for pre-order deal that's about $9,575 in incentives when going with lease and you get $7500 tax credit for lease vs $3750 for purchase. It's pretty even in terms of incentives between lease and purchase but much less risk(Lease: $5,000+$4,575+7500=$17,075 vs Purchase 20% ($15,800 in my case)+$3,750=$19,550).

You can still get 7500 off purchase price by amending 2022 return.
