I have two issues with the Rivian navigation and I am not sure if it is user error or not.
1) I traveled to the Rivian event in normal IL where they showed off the R2 and R3. In normal there is only one none Tesla fast charger. You can imagine the wait time were ridiculous. However, the navigation insisted I stop there to charge. Is there an option to skip or remove a destination so the system will calculate an alternative option?

2) Later that day I was in Milwaukee and had 128 miles of driving distance. My home was 58 miles away and I have a level 2 charger at home. The system again wanted me to stop at a charger for 15 min and I don’t really know why. I guess it does not know I can charge at home but can I tell the system I can? Having the option to skip a suggested stop for an alternative option or tell it I have a preferred changer at home would be great. Instead I just turned of the navigation and drove home.

any help people can give will be appreciated.

Hi, you may have your “ charge upon arrival” set too high in route settings. If it’s set too high, the calculation will add stops to ensure you make it to your destination with the added charge. Take a look at the map setting sub screen when you set your destination and you can change the charge level upon arrival there. I keep mine at 50 but I’m also overly cautious. Hope this helps.

Oh I didn't know you could set the charge level upon arrival. Thank you so much for the info. This will be very helpful.

Can you remind where do I make this change?

Search for a destination.
Select a destination.
Don't click start, instead click the settings icon next to the start button.

Yeah setting the destination level will help massively, but the system still needs work. They also are missing multiple networks. I've messaged them twice about adding the Circle K network and they said they'd pass it on...

In the app you can also select preferred networks, just uncheck Tesla and it will leave those out. Send plan to truck. Not sure if this is an option on infotainment in vehicle -

The Rivian nav. just routed me to a single Rivian SC ... wanted me to charge to 100% for 1 hour and 10 minutes (max pack) to return home, rather than charge for 13 minutes at one, and then 12 min at another right along the way further up.
Looks like they don't factor in charging curves at all, which is rather odd in a nav which is choosing the "quickest" path.

Yeah...it needs work all around.

It's one thing for some of us who now understand charging, locations, plug share, etc, but its another thing for new EV users like my FIL.

He's getting a Rivian and I've helped him with his charging situation at home, but having to explain how he really can't fully trust what the car is telling him, and how to use plugshare and ABRP, etc. It shouldn't be this complicated.

Agree that it needs work all around.

That said, likes of your future in-laws, and other new EV owners really don't need plugshare or ABRP to overwhelm them in the beginning.

All they really need to know from the nav is how far is the destination and charger locations along the way. Doesn't need to be complicated or optimized when they first start experiencing EV roadtrips.

I actually use my own head to plan trips (shocking, I know...) and not any Nav. I know how far I can go on a charge, about how long it takes to charge to various levels, and as long as I have charging options along the way then its all good.

Have taken many 1500 miles+ road trips on Tesla and Rivian over the last 6 years. Tesla SC is only going to make it easier with more options.

Until AI becomes smarter than us (which will be soon), I will rely on own intelligence over what the "nav says"...

Where we live, you have to realize your efficiency numbers can be cut significantly, so knowing the range is always changing depending on the day/season.

The Rivian is ultra conservative which is fine, but it also doesn't have all of our charging networks up here. Minnesota and a lot of the midwest is really far behind you guys on the coasts.
