I'm surprised they are calling you. From Rivian's (financial) perspective, wouldn't it be best to try and minimize the number of pre-price hike reservation holders who purchase vehicles before September given the 20% discount?
Nah, all about clearing inventory. When a new and better model comes out the old stuff is worth less. But they still need to sell it. It's better to sell it for 20% off now, getting rid of OPs coupon than wait until it's officially old stock and they need to give someone 20% off next month (effectively creating a new 20% coupon)

Would they have enough pre-refresh vehicles for all coupon holders?

I am seriously considering leasing to buy because I can take advantage of the $7,500 since they don’t take $7,500 off of you bought the car out right. The rep said you would have to file taxes but who wants to deal with uncle same and possibly be denied the credit.
Leasing doesn’t get you the full 20% off the price. So leasing and then buying with the voucher is not a good idea. You get 20% off the amount you pay for the lease.
For someone without the voucher it might make sense to lease then buy.

I bought now. Only thing I'm waiting for is to trade my Y in for a R2

No chance they have 5+ months worth of vehicles sitting somewhere. I think there is zero chance they will block voucher holders from ordering vehicles manufactured after the shutdown in May. They just don't want to say that because they want to get rid of as many pre-refresh vehicles as possible before the new ones start becoming available in the shop.

For those waiting, life is short and driving the R1 is fun. Waiting also introduces possibility 2.0 refresh <<< 1.0. Remember Windows ME?

Agreed in most everything. I just don't think they'll allow pre-hike pricing on these, which is why I traded in my 2023 R1S for a 2024 R1S this week.
What’s the difference between the 2023 and the 2024? Was it really worth it?

Coupon holders are the reluctant group. Rivian is not going to try and force that group to buy pre-shutdown model.

There's no 2.0 vehicle coming. Maybe version 1.05

You’re eligible for the EV tax incentive as a lease? Huh is that really a thing? I’m contemplating the same thing also it’s not as near of a discount as buying but the car I want now is $1500 financed vs$899 a month with $6k down. Seems like a no brainer.

A lot of speculation here but if I had to guess Rivian will be marking down the prices of their vehicles with this new “refresh” coming. EV sales are slowing down and competition is revving up. Wouldn’t be shocked to see this in the slightest.

You can get the $7,500 EV credit if you lease it. I don't expect Rivian to mark down prices for the Adventure package. I can see them release an Explore edition that will be $3000 cheaper.

Instead what I imagine will happen is Rivian will update their batteries so they're fully eligible for the $7,500 tax credit instead of the $3,750 they're currently eligible for if you purchase it / qualify for it. The combination of full tax credit and explore edition will help Rivian stay competitive in the 7 seater SUV EV market.

Awesome thanks good to know. When I was buying outright it was only eligible for partial EV tax credit. And yeah I second they may make a more affordable version but I’m guessing that’s what the restructure is for in Q2 along with their supply chain improvements.

Perhaps Rivian has a lot of excess inventory they’re trying to sell?

It’s gonna be a minor refresh. New wheels, new working wireless charger and tri motor. See the post about a starter adventure and luxury model. They’ll start charging for wood dash, other features.
