Anyone else find it odd that they got two flats on the two trucks in the span of one week? Looks like the passenger rear on the white one and the passenger front on the other. I don’t don’t read a ton of auto reviews regularly but found it was odd that there was an article dedicated to changing tires.

Not trying to be negative, super excited about the R1T and that headline is awesome! “The most remarkable pickup we’ve ever driven” I just find it interesting as I’ve never seen an auto review with a section about changing tires.

Great to read this article. Was there any mention of the Meridian audio system? I'm trying to get more info about whether the additional $5k might be worth it or if I should plan to upgrade the audio myself.

I have a feeling with all that instant electric torque we should all put some money aside for tires. well at least if you plan on driving it like I do. ;)

What would be an inset or sidebar section of an article in a print magazine now becomes a separate article to get more clicks for advertisers.

Presuming these picture are from motor trend’s drive and not some other Rivian testing, there’s going to be more articles. Looks like they did a lot of off roading and we’re not gentle.

This is not a gently used tire.

There was more talk then there should have been about the 2wd and weather it was FWD or not but the intro to the MT vid shows RWD only to me.

Now that we have a better view of the speaker, and compartment it fits in, has anyone thought about possible future accessories that would fit in that space? Maybe a simple slide out drawer for more storage/extra cup holders? Maybe a lantern that is more focus on good light coverage that you can hang up at a camp site?
Yes, I'm a 3D printing enthusiast and I've already been thinking of ideas for things to print to make more effective use of that space. I'm also considering just pulling the speaker out and leaving it out and maybe (depending on the real size of the speaker) just using the "hole" as a storage cubby for my bag.

1. Could also be that the car has some degradation already. We don't know how long their test vehicle has been in service and the highest degradation happens in the first year. Also, as with Tesla's, the mileage remaining you're seeing on the screen is based off an algorithm. Basically, the computer is guessing a remaining mileage number which isn't exactly accurate compared to a % number.
3. I remember Elon saying that around 50% is the el premo SOC to be at if you don't need the range. But eh, anywhere from 50%-90% IMO I think is fine, based on what you're comfortable with and what you need.
my guess is that the 301 is a hard coded value for the test vehicle. A little too convenient of a number (300+)

What material are you thinking of using? PLA/ABS won't hold up well during the summer. Gets too hot inside cars and the parts will deform.

PETG is the most reasonable option here. I've been printing stuff for my motorcycle, Jeep, and Tesla in it and it holds up well.

I agree on PLA. PETG is fine for most things because its melting point is quite a bit higher than PLA. I am curious why you said ABS is not OK. It is the gold standard for automotive application since it has such a high melting point and is so rigid.

Honestly my two biggest wants are more buttons (or at least hepatic touch spots) for dedicated steering wheel controls (cruise control, volume, lane keep etc.) and a single thin row of toggle like switches at the bottom of the main UI screen (or AC vents) again for dedicated (maybe even configurable) controls like seat heating and cooling windshield heater, rear window heater, etc.

They could do something subtle like in the Navigators drive selector switches which would really be a functional help.

I mean the whole abandoning of buttons is okay, but come on now... I mean Rivian still has window switches so they can't be purists on the "no buttons or switches" ethos.

I love my Range Rover window controls, and would hope Rivian would do something like that.

I think this comes down to preference. I hate buttons on the center console. I like them for windows and on the steering wheel. My experience has always been center console buttons are hard to clean and always look dirty. I like the outside of my truck to be dirty, not the inside. :D

Ditto! From everything I've seen/heard, it'll just be a matter of developing a bit of new muscle memory but I'm looking forward to it.

I've seen some quoted heat deflection points in the mid 60s for abs. However a quick google seach also shows some at 80. Maybe it depends on the abs used. Just like there are some high temp plas.
