I decided to go the route of ceramic coating vs. PPF, both for cost reasons and that I want to make weekly maintenance washing easier. In the Rivian spirit of being adventurous, though, I'd like to learn off-roading and take my R1S on trails in future Mid Atlantic Rivian Club meet-ups.

I'm curious if anyone has any experience with temporary paint coatings. In a quick Google search, I saw that there are many to choose from ranging from paint on/peel-off to temporary Expel films.

I don't want to find out the hard way, though, that they don't adequately protect my vehicle from light brushing from branches/bushes or that the coatings harm my ceramic or lights. (Expel specifically warns against covering Porsche headlamps. I'm also less interested if these take hours to apply or remove.

Thanks, in advance, for any advice.

Tracwrap would be my recommendation. This is also good if you plan to get PPF but need to wait for an appointment or need protection while driving to the installer. It's designed for track days but should protect from things like pinstriping off road.

Thank you! I like that the Xpel Trackwrap comes in 18" widths which should make applying it go faster, though a bit on the pricey side. Cheaper than repairing scratches, I guess. I'm not sure what's special about Porsche headlamps, but would probably opt not to cover the Rivian lights.

Very welcome! If it were me, I would mainly be focused on the high impact areas. So for example, if you're going off-road the sides of the vehicle might be a priority if you think there will be some pinstriping. If you're driving on road it might be more the front areas of the vehicle.

Good point. I suppose its unlikely for rocks to kick up and break a headlight or chip up the front. Pinstriping was my primary concern. If I take up rally racing, I'll get an R3x and PPF it :)

Or just get permanent PPF on the whole thing. If you have OCD like me it will help you rest easier at night.

I just scrapped my mirror on the side of the garage. There is a small mark in the PPF now that will drive me crazy ?

I'd be curious to hear how well or if the film will stick well enough to the ceramic coating. It's generally advised not to put ppf over ceramic coats, but perhaps they may do well enough if only for temporary use.

Thanks, I'll probably do something similar when the time comes.

Gotta say, though, after watching a bunch of videos, the Road Warrior Plus seems like a compelling product unless it's raining. I'm surprised it's not more popular and think it's mostly due to a lack of marketing.
