I really hope Apple and Rivian stay far away .. If apple came in they would do what they do best which is lock everything down due to an 'apple' eco system....look at all their products - you need 1 to connect to the next and the next and so it is a great business strategy but not great for consumer choice

My money is on Apple looking to use the R1 platform as a showpiece for a next generation carplay. Its all software at the end of the day.

Other option is for Apple to realize their self driving investment and replace driver+

Or its just itunes

or an apple watch app

or kicking the tires

Who knows . . .

I'm with you. All Apple products control you; you don't control them. I don't think that I want a truck that controls me. If Apple takes control of Rivian, I'll be headed back to Chevrolet.

No. Next-gen CarPlay takes over all screens. Rivian has clearly and definitively stated they are fully committed to creating an unique user-experience of their own, that is true to their own brand—so did other OEMs who have announced intention to opt-out. People need to accept the "no" as "no".

"Partnership" points to services: streaming.

Agreed, but so have many other car brands, so perhaps Apple has an alternative approach. They need one or it will be stand off which cant be good for anyone.

Only if there is an actual agreement. IF they do come to an agreement, I think it’s more likely to be announced at WWDC in June.
You mean WWE ;)

The strategic partnership will be tech based, with Rivian providing the automotive platform for Apples entry into Apple AI Automotive Tools. What better platform than Rivian for this?

I am totally down to see Apple Music and Apple TV+ and Apple Podcast on the Rivian. This is someone that doesn't own an Apple phone, watch, tablet or any hardware devices except for my 6 year old MBP.
