Wow, people scream and beg and cry for video apps, and then Rivian says here have Google cast so you can cast from any streaming app without us needing a native app, and the response is everyone screams and cry's it isn't good enough. Y'all suck. This is going to make charging so much better, or really any time you spend time in the car which ends up for me at least being more often than I expect (slow ass partner....)
Enabling Casting is a far better solution than multiple native apps. I was hoping this was the route they would go.

Does this put all apple rumors to the grave? We have Amazon Alexa and now google integration. Both competitors to apple.

AFAIK no it does not
I'm not aware of any CarPlay implementations that support Airplay. My wife's Kia (wired CP) certainly does not.
Thanks!

That feels like a big thing for all AA users then.
It'll be interesting to see how fiddly some of the integrations will be though

For example, I have a nebula portable projector (running a version of Chrome OS)
Netflix licensing is not a natively supported app, so there is a bit of a mirror app that was developed, and Hulu as an app is supported, but just doesn't work due to some permission error.

Hopefully the flat "cast" aspect and lack of specialized apps will help alleviate those hang ups

Google cast works on Apple Phones, Airplay doesn't work on Android. Something about walled gardens and what not
Oh cool, it works on every app in iOS like AirPlay? Or just limited apps that choose to integrate Google Cast? I’ve never used it.

Many cars have several options for these kinds of services. I hope, if anything, that this signals a willingness to work with Google (and Apple) to get more + better integration of their services. I'm not holding my breath on CP/AA but youtube music and apple music would be very welcome!

Yeah. I guess YouTube cast will do for now. CarPlay would be amazing

It works for Spotify, Pandora, Netflix, Prime Video, HBO Max, Peacock, and YouTube certainly. I'm sure there are others as well but those are the ones I know of.

Exactly. If it can make the journey better id be stoked for it. Otherwise I’m trying escape the screens and streaming altogether and get outside!
My kids won't even watch the same streaming content. They have their own devices connected to the 5g network and their own headphones. This setup is way better than the old DVD based system built into the headrests.

Exciting!

Usage on the rear screen (if implemented) would be almost useless. It is too small and the viewing angle is not very good. My prior Model S (2022) had a rear screen with streaming media and while it worked and kept my son engaged it was unusable for me or anyone else. Too small.

The Rivian already has charging ports on the rear headrests with a nice metal hook which can accomodate a lot of tablets. Hook it up and use the included mobile hotpot and watch whatever you want on a better screen.
