So I might have mentioned that I got the same denial everyone is getting. I submitted my appeal with a photo of the registration and photo of the sticker by the door jam. I just got this letter today so it looks like the took it and everyone who did the same should be seeing a response soon.

I received the same letter after appealing and providing a photo of my door pillar sticker.

It has been about a month since I spoke with CODOR and uploaded my registration, which does not show the GVWR and they did not ask nor did I provide a copy of the sill plate. Looking at my account on line it now shows a balance with a credit of $5,000. It has appeared that way for several weeks, but I have not received any communication from CODOR, but then again I haven't received a check either, which they said could take 4-6 weeks, so I impatiently wait

So I submitted my taxes and included the registration and door jam sticker with the online e-filler attachment and STILL got the denial letter in the mail. WTAF is wrong with these people processing returns? Seems like every Rivian is just getting a blanket denial and no one seems to be getting any answers.
I also got denied even though I had submitted my purchase agreement, registration, and door jamb sticker photo as attachments when I filed my return. I just submitted my protest telling them to read the attachments again.

I submitted my documents electronically (revenueonline.gov) at the time of my filing, but also got the denial letter. When submitting the protest letter, are people mailing in a paper copy of everything, faxing, or uploading electronically to the revenueonline.gov site? Any idea which is better? Thx!

Just chiming in that I got the same denial letter. I took delivery in June before the tax credit changed.

I suspect they had some systematic error that automatically flagged Rivian's for whatever reason. I doubt any human was involved in reviewing these.

I got denial letter awhile ago and submitted my protest letter electronically through the website. I was able to upload a copy of my registration (with home address) and took a photo of the vehicle sticker with VIN and weight info as proof. I have not heard anything yet but hopeful it'll get approved.

So you applied for the Innovative Motor Vehicle Credit (Less than 8,500 GVWR) instead of the Innovative Truck Credit Light Duty passenger credit > 8,500 GVWR) and that got approved?
No, I only qualified for the Innovative Truck Credit Light Duty passenger credit > 8,500 GVWR so thats what I got approved for. I got $2k back.

Well I sent in an amended return since originally I mistakenly had the commercial vehicle selected for $2800 and did the passenger version for $2k and got denied again with a letter: “The innovative motor vehicle and innovative truck credit has been adjusted. The amount of the innovative motor vehicle credit claimed on the income tax return was reduced or did not match the credit amount that was entered on Form DR 0617.”
Which is false. Both the return and the Form 0617 have the revised $2k credit for the passenger category with both lines having the same thing. Now I have to once again protest it. CO really doesn’t want to give out the tax credit. It shouldn’t be this hard. You would think you enter the make, model, and vin or something and, boom. It pulls up.

I received a response today to my protest resulting in a refund of $2k!

The documentation and/or information you provided was sufficient to verify the following credit(s), subtractions(s), and/or tax calculation reported on your return.
• Innovative Motor Vehicle Credit

How did they reach out with that info and how long between when you submitted the protest and the resolution? Are they sending a check or doing direct deposit? I'm still waiting and haven't heard anything and doesn't look like there's any way to find status online.

I protested early March. They notified me by letter and will be issuing a refund in 2-3 weeks. My default method is direct deposit but I’m not sure if they send out checks in this case or not.

I also just got a denial letter for the $2,000 credit for not registered in CO and GVWR not qualified for the credit, despite including a copy of the CO registration and photo of the door jamb sticker with my return.

They appear to be just issuing blanket denials on all of these and requiring substantiation through the protest process. It's very annoying and really just creates more work for them. I don't know why they don't take 5 minutes and just read the original attachments.

I just filed my protest online.

FYI, after receiving my letter, I provided my a copy of my registration on March 25th and $5K was direct deposited on May 15th, so almost two months.
Good for you that you got the $5k. Hilarious that they're being so difficult to deal with over this credit and still don't apply the rules correctly.
