Got my R1T recently and need to get it inspected. I still only have the temp plate. Is that enough to get it inspected in PA, or do I need to wait for the actual PA plate and registration? Also, where have people had it done in SE PA? I'm in Bucks county. For my other cars, I would just go to the dealer for the brand and get it done. can't do that with the Rivian.

My experience was that you need the PA registration.

Yeah - You'll just need insurance and registration. I took mine to my local tire/repair shop - CJ's Tires & Automotive. There are some locations near you if you don't have another non-dealer place.

Since they'll have to remove your wheels to check the brakes, I'd make sure I took a set of pucks and confirmed that they knew how to use them. My local shop appreciated that I had the magnetic ones - it just made it easier to line up the lift.

Side note...We picked up our R1S in August in Maryland and I waited until my first tire rotation in December to get it inspected. Risky, perhaps, but I was willing to take it. CJ's then did the rotation for free since I was having another service done.

Timely thread. I just picked up my R1T yesterday in Mahwah, NJ and didn't give the need for PA inspection a thought. It looks like the first step is to get a jack puck, and then look for someplace local (I'm in Delco) to do the inspection.

I will start at my local shop, who are very competent and have done great work on all of my ICE vehicles over the years. I know that they have little EV experience however, and to say they're not fans of electric cars is more than a bit of an understatement.

If you take it to your local shop that you have a relationship with s00n, they might do a "lick and stick" inspection because it is new with minimal mileage. My inspection mechanic checked to make sure all the lights and horn worked, and visually inspected the rotors and pads and suspension on all four wheels without putting it on a lift and/or removing wheels. That's probably more than a brick and mortar new car dealer does when they sell you a brand new car.

My mechanic has very little EV experience and is fairly old school, but still happily acknowledges EVs are the future. They will inspect EVs and change brakes on them, that's about it.

Getting the PA registration and title from Rivian took forever, so I drove mine around for over a year without any inspection stickers. I even had local police stopping at Wawa and checking out the truck when I first got it, and no one even asked or noticed it didn't have a sticker. Now I just go to my local mechanic and for the safety inspections.

My shop was great - they let me in the bay when they were first using the pucks and I showed them how to pop out the puck covers. The rear ones popped out with just a finger, but the front ones required a small screwdriver. Now I don't worry about it because they've done two tire rotations for me.

I have been wondering why we have so many orders from NJ, PA and CT for our Magnetic Jack Pucks! Now, I know.....

Guilty as charged, though SE PA and not NJ.

My go-to shop is Jone's Liberty in Milmont Park, Delco. They are a great ICE repair shop and also good for tires and inspection. Their mechanical work is first-rate and they stand behind it. They are not fans of all of the electronics in ICE cars; for example, having to contact the manufacturer for a code to unlock the emergency brakes to do work. It will be interesting to see what they say about doing brake work on the Rivian when the time comes.

In the interim, I hope to use them for the Commonwealth-required new vehicle inspection once I get my Jack Pucks - and print out the instructions on how & where they're needed.

Attached are the instructions I give my shop for tire rotations...Might be a starting point, but I was with them in the bay the first time they worked on my R1S.

I have it printed and keep it in the case with my pucks. I was actually, after seeing another post where they used the pucks incorrectly, of including a couple of photos of the pucks in place. If I update it I'll post another copy here.
