I know there are threads about this, but, more warnings can't hurt.

Cliffs notes, is, they will not accept responsbility for the damage, but they're still sending me a check that covers 75% of the cost, and I'm Ok with that.

Full story.
Truck is 18 months old, 2nd set of tires, the only places that have jacked up the truck are Rivian and Discount tire. The damage is the same stuff we see with all discount tire errors, they put the pucks where the bolt holes are NOT in the jacking point.

The problem with my claim: As someone who went to discount tire solely because they are Rivian partners and because I trust them as a customer who's used them for 30 years, I did not expect I should have to watch their every move specifically after asking them in each occasion do you have the pucks, I feel one error was, not asking do you know where to put the pucks*

2nd problem, I have been to 3 discount tires, never once did I check underneath after because...........why would I, right? does anyone go check under their car after service, nope, no one does under normal circumstances. I had a mobile service appt with Rivian because one of the panels seemed to be hanging down *I thought maybe a connection point came lose, he is the person who discovered the damage many months after the last time a discount tire touched the truck.

Overall, I'm only a little bit bummed it's not completely paid for, but I'm a LOT thankful they are covering 75% of it. At the end of the day it can't be anyone else who damaged it, but, had I saw them jacking it in the wrong spot, OR, checked underneath after each appointment (I have had 3 appts at 3 locations) I would know which store did it. And these stores get dinged individually with a claim which is why they didn't want to take responsibility if they could push it off on someone else.

This is simply another warning, don't trust them, either put tape over the holes, remove the puck covers ahead of the appt, walk with the actual tech to show him where to jack them or have them show you where they will jack them, now I would consider this common sense after we've seen multiple warnings, my damages occurred between 6 months and 1 year ago, the fact that they gave me a $350 payment is actually more reassurance that they are trying to make it right.

I'm sorry this happened, but glad you had some sort of compensation. Once again, Discount Tire lacks a comprehensive trainging process for Rivian vehicles at their stores. It's a crap-shoot, and while many of us have had pleasant experiences, the continual reminders is very disconcerting.

Get your own magnetic jack pucks and insist they use them, or have them show you what they will be using and how they will insert them. A few questions goes a long way. Ridiculous you have to ask, but it's the nature of the beast now.

Yeah my experience is not new nothing unique about it, just one more reminder for everyone, stay vigilant, It's really really easy to prevent this, I just was naive to think I didn't have to do the preventing.

For what it's worth, I believe they have some sort of guide app on their phones that they can use when servicing a Rivian. May be worth mentioning for others in the future.

When I did my first rotation at DT last year, I was the first Rivian they had worked on but the tech told me had already reviewed all of the instructions & showed me an app on his phone he was following (which I assume was DT and/or Rivian issued) & also told me they were going to take it slow to avoid any issues, which I really appreciated.

Unfortunately, the service you get at any franchise is always going to depend on who you are dealing with that day and how good or bad they are at their job (or how well they've been trained).

I think the holes for the bolts that hold the plastic panels in are the problem and I think Rivian knows this too I heard on the 2023/2024 they have tape or something over the holes, or some way to make it very obvious where the jacking points are.

to me, a Red X over the hole, and a Green jack image or something similar on the puck cover is the solution.

Everyone should post the exactly location they had issues with.

And in my case, the location at Happy Valley and Lake Pleasant in Peoria AZ does it absolutely perfectly. Been there twice, and they also made a point of putting four techs on it to cross train them. Which meant my car was done in 30 minutes!

The Discount Tire I go to (Durham, NC) had a long, step-by-step printout that details every single thing that they need to do to rotate the tires on my R1T. They showed it to me when I inquired the first time I showed up. It is pretty simple when you have the information, and I am amazed that this isn't SOP for all the Discount Tires.

What was the damage for you? I just got a flat repair and tire rotation done. I also walked up and asked the guys working on it they know the pucks and the jack points. They said yes, unfortunately one side they lifted off the bolt, I even saw the car tilted when it was lifted but due to unplanned last minute repair had to be on work call and couldn’t talk to them right then.

I did call back and spoke to gentleman who provided me his email to send pictures. While I appreciate they have the tools and free repair/rotation (I do have hazard warranty through them as well so it’d have been covered either way) but it’s disappointing the floor techs missed it.

I do have a mobile Rivian check up coming for 7,500 miles but besides the panels not sure what damage risk exist due to this. Hope you can share.

I'm sorry this has happened to you. I think it's reasonable to say that these are no longer isolated incidents, but a legitimate training problem, which is unacceptable. Once again, everyone should have their own magnetic jack pucks and/or insist to see what Discount Tire is using and insist on them walking owners through the Tire Change Software Procedure, as well as Puck Locations and process.

How could anyone think this would be okay???

1 corner looks like this *front left* rear left is damaged less on the hole area, but enough to push the front of the panel down, where it cannot grab so it sticks down a centimeter from the middle panel on the truck

rear right, slight damage, front right no damage

Was this the "real" Discount Tire or the purple logo one with the same name?

Exactly. When it comes time for my rotation, I plan on reviewing and inspecting their entire process. I will not take their "word" that they know what they are doing. Even if it is done right the first time, you will most likely get a different tech the next time.

It’s a Proper Discount Tire location. I’ve used them multiple times for ICE vehicles without issues.

I have my mobile appointment with Rivian tech July 1st, let’s see what they say about damage and any potential impact.

Agree with the sentiment, they have the magnetic pucks and equipment plus general training for Rivian but it’s a gamble with the techs.

I wouldn't pretend it's all that common, but, it happens, they have probably a 1% or lower screw up rate, I'm not trying to falsely inflate the number of issues they have had.
