Hoping they put gen 2 PDMs in the shop soon!
Even if you find a Dual Max , the performance unlock will likely be an option you can buy in the future.

The obsession with Max Packs here has me questioning my choice of Standard. Honest questions:
- Are people getting these actually planning to drive ~200mi out and back in a day without charging or going off grid deep into wilderness that much?
- Do people really believe the $12-14k premium for the Max is truly worth it?
For me, 258 mi with an LFP (better durability and supposedly a more favorable charging curve with more sustained peaks) in socal with at most 1-2 road trips beyond 100 miles per year seems like it is a value king, with the pre-hike voucher and 2022 binding purchase agreement. Gets me down to ~$53k retail, -$58k OTD.

I’m in a similar position and have found that 270 miles is plenty of range for me. It’s a shame to pay a bunch of money to lug around a bigger battery than you need. There are plenty of people who might benefit from a larger battery, but I assert that the majority of buyers would find the smallest battery more than sufficient.

Yes! They are putting in some performance dual maxes! One with my preferred configuration (well, it was close enough anyway) appeared and then disappeared before I could snap it up—now I’m checking the Shop not just regularly but obsessively!

Indeed! That’s my backup plan if the right PDM doesn’t come through. It’s a little (but not a lot) risky since there’s no guarantee of an unlock but still a good backup option since it seems likely.

I do think it’s funny they don’t offer them all with or without the unlock given it’s just software. I wonder why.

Yeah I don't understand that either, why not try to up sell the performance unlock at checkout on all large/max. I bet most people would opt in since it wouldn't change the lease/financing price that much.

Brakes and rotors chance on a Tesla performance, which is why they don't do it that way, but as far as I can tell it's all the same here.

I’m looking for a Max pack but totally agree. As I’ve noted previously, I consider myself an edge case. (Long, boring explanation I’ll skip.)

Circumstances differ but for most people, I think it’s generally smarter to go with a standard or large battery and save the money for your next R1 purchase. (Or if you are rational, for your child’s education, or a donation to a good cause.) And in warm climates the LFP chemistry probably makes the most sense.

I still have an old preorder that has to be used by September 2024. I started the purchase on a 2025 Dual Max yesterday. I had originally ordered a Quad motor Large pack. We do some interstate travel so the max pack made sense to me - now I just need a Tesla adapter.....

The new large / max set up kind of bugs me. Unless your drive over 1000 miles per roadtrip, the max pack only saves you a very small amount of time.

How my standard+ (software locked old Large) has more battery capacity available than the new Large but somehow less range is odd.

I've been following this pretty closely with inventory. My guess is that they already know the quarter is terrible and they want to keep the PDM software update until q3/q4 as a way to pad the numbers.

I have been checking the shop inventory regularly and nothing seems to be changing in the past 1-2 weeks. If they don't mix up the available inventory for my zip I'm going to probably skip and buy next year if and when Rivian drops prices like Tesla did last year.

You got me to look at my outstanding reservation and there are a few 2025 Gen2 R1S available in the shop. Pricing rages from $62-$65k.
I see a dozen dual motor R1S available. No R1T or Quad for gen 2. Have they shipped any Gen 2 R1Ts? Or are they focusing on R1S?

Note I’m happy with my 2022 R1T. Probably going to cancel my other reservation s00n.

I don't think you'll find one of these in the shop eligible for the pre-order voucher. I think they are trickling in some standard packs just to start getting those built. Large and max pack, which are the only ones you can get the performance on will only be available if you configure one. But the pre-order voucher isn't valid on configured vehicles.

You either need to take a gen1 or standard pack gen2 .. Which in my honest opinion might be enough. The pre-order voucher basically eliminates the depreciation, so you probably wouldn't lose much money in the short term.
