What's your highway/city mix? If you're a lot of highway, it's running the equivalent of Conserve in quad motors more often. This probably explains your higher efficiency.
My average speed is 41mph. I’d estimate 50/50 for my highway/city mix.

They look fairly new. How many miles do you have on them? How is the noise level/ride quality? TIA!
I have 2755 miles on them now. The noise level and ride quality are both excellent.

The Goodyears are currently top of my list for the next set but I've only got about 8k miles on the Michelin Platinums so it's gonna be a little while. Hopefully Goodyear makes a direct RIV fitment for 275/65-20 so we don't HAVE to do a recalibration.

BTW, got ~26k out of the Pirelli AT before I couldn't stand the howling any longer (or the poor tread life, but Pirelli gotta Pirelli so that was expected ;)) and I am not happy with the Michelin's damp/wet weather performance, or their massive weight. Also, 8k miles on them and they are, at best, only equally efficient as the Pirelli AT. Same driving routines and I was ~2.1 lifetime on the Pirellis and 2.0 on the Michelin.

I need tires ASAP; I need to pull the trigger this week or next. I have 30k on my second set of Pirelli ATs and they are past due. I am trying to decide between the Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 or the Goodyears. I live on a dirt/gravel road, but don’t really need an off-road tire. I do need decent wet/snow performance, efficiency and a good, quiet highway ride.

Well seeing as Rivian is offering this tire in 275/60R20 as the new Dual Standard base tire... They should eventually have that option available. They've previously confirmed size change will be doable in the infotainment s00n.

Do you need 3PMSF? If not, LTX MS2 sounds right up your (gravely) alley.

Yeah, that's why I said "hopefully". ;) Tire mfgs do weird things with their size offerings though and this wouldn't be the first time a relatively niche-market size is left out to avoid the cost of molds.

... But it's already a RIV tire, in a new RIV size, that's more efficient. Why would they make another RIV tire that's bigger and less efficient? Once they update infotainment to allow self-selectable tire size, it's just a couple taps of the screen.

Yes, it will be awesome IF we ever get that ability.

The new Goodyear tire designed for Rivian sound like a good fit for you! They will perform well on a dirt/gravel road. They also perform well as an All-Season tire with excellent wet, snow, efficiency, ride and noise performance.

Do you recall what efficiency #s you were seeing with the OE Pirellis, vs. the #s you are seeing with the Goodyears?

Goodyear uses the Wrangler Territory line to tune tires to perform well on a specific vehicle for OEMs. The Territory line is different from a replacement tire line (ie Wrangler DuraTrac) with multiple sizes

I only had ~280 miles on the OE Pirelli before swapping them over to the Goodyear tire. I didn't realize I could track the efficiency until after I switched to the Goodyear tires.

Goodyear uses the Wrangler Territory line to tune tires specifically for new Original Equipment vehicles. The OE Territory line is different from a replacement tire line (i.e. Wrangler DuraTrac) with multiple sizes and different performance priorities. Goodyear does make multiple replacement tire options in the 275/65R20 size, but I would definitely recommend the 275/60R20 Territory AT tire designed specifically for Rivian as the best Goodyear option for the R1 vehicles.

I do not mean to be rude, and do very much appreciate your help and willingness to post, but what is putting me off just buying the Goodyears is the poor ratings on TireRack for this tire. Are they missing something?

No worries. All the different Goodyear Territory options for various OE applications are lumped under the same reviews for the Wrangler Territory. There are very few of the Rivian specific Goodyear tires in the wild and likely none of the online reviews are for this specific tire. Also, anyone can post information that may or may not be true in an online review. I am confident if there was a scientific study of these tires under a controlled environment, these Goodyear Rivian tires would perform very well.
