Can Someone Confirm Underbody Shield?

I'm buying a 2023 R1S Quad from out of state. It has the 20" all-terrain dark wheels and I'm hoping it wasn't one of the rare birds that didn't have an underbody shield. Please take a look at this video the salesman sent me and let me know if it indeed has the shield. Thanks in advance.

Pretty sure this does NOT have the RUS (Reinforced Underbody Shield). And I don't think it is a "rare bird" to not have the RUS. Many (most?) of the early adopters don't have the RUS.

That said, the standard battery shield is pretty darn good. Unless you're planning on some hard-core or frequent off-roading on rocky roads, the standard battery underside protection should suffice.

As for the sleazy (perhaps just uniformed?) salesman's assertion, you can let him know that this vehicle does not have Rivian's RUS.

The one you are looking at doesn't seem to have one.

Nearly impossible to tell by simply looking under the vehicle. That cover would need to come off to difinitively tell.

Very easy to tell from the pics. The long oval recessed areas are non rus. Rus has flat bottom.

Initially, back in Nov 2020 when we were first allowed to configure our vehicles, the RUS was included in the base price of the Launch Edition vehicles. Then later (2021?) they re-did the pricing and allowed LE reservation holders to remove the RUS and take a $2000 credit. They did something similar with the tow hooks. But then later (2023?) they bundled the RUS and the 20" and the tow hooks into an "off-road" package. But there was a long period of time when the "off-road package" co-existed with the a la carte pricing of the RUS/tow hooks/20"wheels.

Regardless, by the time they shipped vehicles, the RUS was not included in the base price, and I suspect a lot of LE reservation holders saved $2000 by removing it from their configuration.

I have the RUS on my 2022 LE R1T. The RUS bottom is much smoother than the pictures in the OP. Mine looks like the picture in #5. Conclusion - the vehicle in the OP does not have a RUS.

You can also tell by the weight sticker on the driver's side door jamb. The RUS weight several hundred pounds, so the load rating will be reduced. There are threads where you can find the weights of various configurations.

I’ll also add that RUS was a stand-alone option for early ‘22 LE R1S. Mine was spec’ed with it.

nope this is not the underbody shield. the dead giveaway are those two "channels". the shield does not have that.

I believe mine does not have it also, and have wondered how hard it would be to add it. Anyone know? And is there a way to get build sheets like you can get for most other brands?

Thanks for everyone's help on this. I found one that had the RUS. Very excited to get it. Will be here in about 7 days.
