That's not correct. I've done it before, and I just had a buddy do it this week. We both paid $140 as well. You may have to push back a bit, but fight them on it and I can provide a screenshot if needed for you to show them.

I don't think the actual SC updates the software - they put in a request to Normal or wherever and they remotely send the update to the truck. It's ridiculous for $140 but whatever.

Would someone with these tires post pics from dead on front and back? My biggest concern is the narrow width looking awkward...

They're the same width. 275/65/20 and 275/60/20 both have roughly a 10.8" width. Nokian says they're 11" wide and Pirelli says they're 10.98" wide.

You're only losing 0.5" of ground clearance just like the 21" has. Here is a comparison visual:

I guess I'm confused... On TireRack, it says the Michelin's only have a tread width of 7.8" vs 8.8" for the new Goodyear OEM option and 9.1" for the original Pirelli ATs.

Tread width is different than tire width. Tires are often rounded and not square. Visually you don't really notice it too much, but when you measure the actual tread, it will be different. If you want a better explanation watch this starting around 7:50 mark

I wouldn't buy the new Goodyears solely because they have zero tread warranty from Goodyear which tells me they have little faith they'll last long.

As a Goodyear tire designer, I can confirm that Goodyear has a ton of faith in the tire designed for Rivian. As mentioned in other threads, it is typical of tire manufactures to not have a treadwear warranty for tires designed for specific OE vehicles. A pro-rated warranty does not guarantee a better or longer lasting tire.

Oh thanks for mentioning you're a designer for them! I am curious how they stack up off-road. Are you able to share how many plys they are or if they have any special material to resist punctures?

You're right that manufacturers don't normally offer it on OE specific tires, but Pirelli in this case does, just not on the original set. On the first customer-purchased set, they come with a 50k tread warranty. Any chance Goodyear would consider matching the same coverage?

The 275 65 r20 Michelin Defender LTX Platinum tires have been out since fall and I will tell you, they are AWSOME on my R1S! This is should be a stock option because they are very smooth, absolutely silent, and I am getting about the same range efficiency as the 21’! In addition, they look great!

The Goodyear Rivian has 2 tread plies.

Off-road performance was a consideration in the Goodyear design, but efficiency was a higher priority than extreme off-road performance. I think the majority of customers will be very happy with the balance of performance and efficiency.

Goodyear and other tire manufacturers may warranty OE tires in the future. But in my personal opinion, it is likely that more tire manufacturers will follow the majority trend and not offer warranties on tires designed for OE fitments. It will be interesting to see what the future holds.

Not sure what comparison there is to the stock Pirellis because the Platinums are a AS tire vs Pirellis are AT. On road, I can definitely see a 20% improvement in Avg efficiency 1.9 m/kw vs now 2.2 in real world. Also Way more quiet.

I have these Michelins and the are quiet and comfortable. Switched from stock 20” AT. I have not updated software for the tire size and the truck is showing approximately the same efficiency as stock BUT…. This is without the update to smaller diameter tires! Which means they are less efficient than the Pirelli ATs for me.

I’m scheduled to have these Defender LTX Platinums installed tomorrow.

Why does Rivian have to adjust settings for this tire? If you had OEM AT 20” the diameter is 34.09. The Michelins are 34.1 basically the same

The Defender LTX are available in the same size but this discussion is mostly about Defender M/S2 being released in the 275/60/R20, and whether there's hope for it in the 275/65/R20 size, which I believe there is. At the 275/60/R20 size, it's like the 21"s​

I'm installing 275/60-20 on my R1T tomorrow. I have 35K on my OEM ATs with an overall efficiency of 2.11 mi/kWh (according to the truck). It will be interesting to see what my new efficiency will be. I mainly drive all-purpose mode and like to drive a little faster than the speed limit.

Now that you've had a few weeks to run with the Defenders, what kind of efficiencies are you getting in comparison to the OEM ATs?

Edit: oops, I see you've posted a few days ago that the registered efficiency is same as your OEM ATs. That's a little disappointing as I would hope they'd be more efficient than the ATs.

I'll get you those numbers as of this morning. I am not impressed with efficiency at this point. They are much quieter which is nice but as efficient. I'll probably go back to an A/T
