Got a loaner R1S quad gen 1 from the service center today as a loaner while mine is being worked on. On the drive home I couldn’t go over 80 and noticed this message on the display. Everything else seems normal. Tried an hard reset, it’s still there. Anybody seen this before? Is it possibly a sort of limp mode for loaners?

Tesla loaners also limited to 85mph. You may thank me for that back in 2016.....

That's odd. I have been living with an R1T loaner for the past 2 weeks and I do not have that speed limit warning.

I for one think that’s a very good business practice.

Rivian vehicles allow you to set speed limits, which is useful for restricting the maximum speed for teenage drivers or other users. This can be done through the **Driver Profile Settings** in the vehicle's interface.

Here’s how you can set it up:

1. Go to the **Driver Profile Settings** on the center display.
2. Create or select the specific driver profile you want to restrict.
3. Under the driver profile settings, look for options related to **Speed Limiter** or **Teen Driver Mode**.
4. Set the maximum speed limit for that profile.

Check to see that someone using that vehicle before you didn’t set that up for their family use.
Does this actually work?

Not a thing.

It's a loaner. Unless you're in that one part of Texas that has a private freeway with an 85 MPH speed limit, just chill.

Edit: If you are in that part of Texas, then ask them to remove it, since it doesn't make sense to set it to 80 there.
Years ago I was on that highway in a rental Dodge Nitro (remember them?). Was excited to legally drive that fast but above 70 the nitro felt like it was going to explode. I was getting blown away by corollas.

I think our May 2024 loaner (Gaithersburg, Maryland SC) was software-limited to 80. I didn't care.

Have to ask-are you somewhere where the speed limit is above 80? Not calling you out. I have legally driven well over that speed in my own car but will treat a loaner or rental with respect. It's not mine.
Rentals and loaners don’t have speed limits, jump height limits, or any such limitations. There’s no such thing as respect to an inanimate object, especially a rental.

Before you got your loaner they examined your driving history from your vehicle data. They determined it was best to limit your speed. Don't worry when you pick up your vehicle from service the police will be there with tickets from all your previous violations.

does the message only pop up when you try to go over 80 or is it there always?

The gen2 R1S demo I drove had the same limitation. Cruise would still let me set 85 but it'd stop accelerating at 80. Quite interesting.

The R1T loaner I'm currently in has no such limitation. Could be they just haven't rolled it out fleet wide yet.

The R1S I took my demo drive in was limited to 80. This was about a year ago. Maybe the demo vehicles get the limit and the ss put one in circulation for loaners?
