And exactly how many people is that? In my experience, people have no problem buying a car without carplay but then they love to go on internet forums and complain about not having carplay. YMMV

I don’t post often, but I really don’t understand all the Rivian apologists on here. Sure you’d expect them on a Rivian forum, but damn do you guys drink the koolaid.

I have both a 22’ R1T and a 23’ R1S. I’m not happy with the corporate decisions. RJ was a good guy with good plans but the investment community has damaged this company like they do every other.

There has been a lot of over promise under deliver counter to what RJ used to say. Is THIS that, No. But forcing everyone to start the trial immediately on the same date prior to updates going out. That’s wrong, and you reading this are wrong for supporting it. If the update was out and they gave everyone a month to download the update and start the trial after the update was complete…that would be acceptable. I don’t see the value in the current offering, but at least it wouldn’t be such a lowball tactic to improve metrics for the investors instead of care about the customers…yes I have a few thousand shares as well. Was offered the pre IPO but that was another scam, bought below $15.

Rivian, the current penny chasing tactics will not make you a long term player. Be better.

I think there are a lot of people who equate the monthly fee for Connect+ with the apps themselves. The cost really stems from Rivian needing to maintain the network and the data transfer. To that end, I'm perfectly fine with $15/mo to ensure connectivity and I don't believe it's unreasonable for them to require that as they increase the load on the network by expanding the brand.

As far as Apple Carplay and Android Auto, I only use Carplay in my Wife's car, so I'm not the target audience there. As long as Rivian continues to improve their software, I'll be happy.

Then again, I'm switching from a 2015 Challenger to an R1T, so the technology gap there is quite large, lol ?

You know what definitely doesn’t make you a long term player? Giving everything away for free.

Rivian stated in their IPO documents this was coming so I’m not sure why this is a surprise to anyone. That’s not ”koolaid”, it’s just a simple fact.

Apparently you didn’t read the whole post. Rivian needs to stop the ticky tack BS. The way this was released this morning is exactly that. There is no defending it.

Yes, this was coming, I never disputed that it shouldn’t.

On the one hand I hate paying subscriptions on something I already own…

But on the other hand, it’s a new era of Software defined vehicles and I can’t imagine any car will be sold without a subscription plan over the next few years. It’s really no different than how the smart phones and app stores evolved.

Of all the subscriptions I pay for on a monthly basis, this is one of the least annoying. I love my truck.
Android Auto/Carplay users are not paying for a subscription. We pay for our phone connectivity and should not need a second data link for our vehicles.

I read your post. They aren’t forcing anyone to pay for Connect+ so IMO they don’t owe anyone a free trial.

You don't have to pay for a second one. Tether your phone to use it's plan, and stream away.

Then why provide one at all? You see, the way they rolled this out is wrong. Rivian can do wrong, and they have been.

It’s one thing to not treat a customer base with respect when you have 1 billion potential customers because you’re price point allows that. But at this price point and facade of luxury it’s not acceptable. They may not be making money yet, but as pointed out earlier in this thread the $2.50 in “value” gained for Rivian is exactly why this is ticky tack. They received a lot of money on purchase, the $400,000 gained by this isn’t worth how it affects the customer base.

The reality is so much of this forum are early adopters. We have supported Rivian from the beginning, and clearly support their mistakes as acceptable. But the next potential customers are not as forgiving and don’t want to be treated like that either. Stepping over dollars to make nickels.

Yes, but AA and CP do this so much better. I was ok with Tesla and Rivian trying to do their own version until I realized that they were going to start charging for access to mobile data. So yes, I will do what I can without subscribing to Connect+ but it won't be nearly as good as the AA/CP experience.

I understand your point, but I fail to see how getting 59 or 55 or 50 days free instead of 60 “affects” anyone at all? Life will go on and honestly this is such a weird thing to fixate on I doubt new customers will care either. If they buy in October they will get 60 days from the time of purchase so why would they be upset? And if they get no free trial they will just have to compare features and decide without it…
