I'm still waiting on Rivian to install my PTC. They've rescheduled 3 times, and pushed it out 2 months later than originally scheduled. With winter weather coming much sooner than I'll now get the powered cover installed, I'm looking at the Interobang manual cover to fill the gap. I've read good things, but I'm curious if it would work as a backup in case the powered tonneau failed for some reason (assuming the rails were clear and PTC was stuck in open position). Just trying to figure out if it would be worth keeping after the PTC install, or if I would sell it.

The tonneau cover situation is really pathetic. We’ve had the same continued pushing out of the installation. They advertised that all power covers will be installed by this December but at this rate I’ve got to assume they have no intention on meeting that (self imposed) deadline.

Ya, I agree. I'm fully expecting them to say they don't have the parts (yet again) and push it out until next year. My problem is I have a roadtrip in December, and I need a tonneau, powered or not. Ideally, I would have loved to not have to spend another $1500 on something to replace something that I already paid for with the vehicle, but it's kinda the only option right now.

Can’t comment on the need for a backup cover - would be based on your needs.
I can attest that the Interobang cover is a high quality choice. Use it regularly and have stood on it many times to trim trees over the driveway (although I am only 150 lbs).

I just had my PTC replaced. It was scheduled and actually arrived earlier than anticipated.

I've actually been thinking about this lately too. I was really looking forward to the PTC before I got my truck and definitely get the convenience of it. If/when retrofits become available I may jump on it myself. But, you'd better believe I'll baby the thing. I think our interrobang covers make a really great "stunt double" solution. Even if I had a PTC, I'd likely keep my interrobang cover in most of the time. I'd really miss the ability to pile stuff on top or stand up on it. We have a long driveway, so whenever there's too much recycling for the bin or whatever, it all gets piled up on my tonneau cover so I can just drive it down. I really like using it as a platform for wildlife/landscape photography too. I feel like I'd be too paranoid about the PTC getting jammed up to have it be my only option.

I installed a "temporary" roll up cover from EV Sportsline while I was waiting for my manual cover to be delivered from Rivian. I like the roll up cover so much I got a refund for the Rivian one.

I've seen multiple posts and responses of people standing on the Interobang, which is awesome, but very few mention weight. I'm 6'3" 240-250lbs. My body type is "clearly loves tacos", so I'm curious if it would actually hold me up there.

I'm nearly twice your size :CWL:. If it could actually hold me, that would be pretty awesome. Being able to use it as a platform for nature/wildlife photography would be a huge plus.

I've read that the new PTC is much more reliable than the original one, but anything mechanical can and will eventually fail. 99% of the time there's nothing in the bed of my truck, but sometimes i need it dry and secure. For instance, my wife and I are driving from Colorado to Maine in December with our 2 dogs (65lb and 50lb pitbulls). We'll be gone for about 2 weeks, so we need to bring all our heavy winter cloths, which will likely be more than I can fit in just the trunk. So, having a backup plan, in case the tonneau fails, will potentially save some serious frustration in the future. I'm just not sure if it will fit once the PTC is installed.

Can you confirm that the interrobang MTC still fit when an installed OEM PTC is fully open ?

I can vouch for the tonneau cover's ability to handle the weight, but I can't make any guarantees on the weight limit of the trucks rails themselves. We've torture tested the tonneau cover to 800lbs+ without seeing any issues, but that was in a frame we built because I love my R1T and don't want to break it.

My understanding is that there is a plastic cap near the tailgate that needs removed to slide in a manual cover, but otherwise a retracted PTC does not get in the way. I'm going off second hand customer information though. If anyone with a PTC wants to swing by and let me poke their truck a little, it would be incredibly helpful.

Anyone else annoyed that they canceled the cover (manual AND PTC) from orders that were already configured with them and now won't match the price they were originally quoting during configuration? Doesn't seem right. Took Rivian 4 months and 6 contacts (phone, email, text) to tell me no, they won't honor the original price from my order. I'm pretty miffed by it actually.

Also, with the Rivian OEM manual cover pretty close in cost to the interrobang cover, why are people choosing the interrobang one?

Because you can actually GET the Interrobang tonneau cover, NOW as opposed to S00N… And the Rivian manual cover does not hold up.
Some of us have been waiting on the Rivian PTC for years… from long ago price-protected pre-orders… thru Rivian delays and promises… thru cancellation or forced reconfiguration of our orders… thru new PTC promises and then new manual covers with their own failures and delays… thru promised covers that are paid for and then (surprise!) missing upon actual delivery… thru retrofit’ promises and further delays. This horse has long since been beat to death. If you want (or like me, NEED!) a usable tonneau cover on your Rivian sometime before the warranty runs out on the vehicle I STRONGLY suggest you select from the 3rd party choices. I went with Interrobang and it was everything I originally hoped for on my Rivian… except not powered… which sucks.

(Edited): Don’t get me wrong… if the day comes that the ‘new PTC’ has been installed on a lot of vehicles and proven itself anew, AND I can schedule an ACTUAL appointment less than a month out to go in and get a retrofit PTC, AND it has not doubled and doubled again in price, I may well get in line!

Very, very helpful, thank you.
