Does Rivian still send updates over LTE? I don't have wifi access anywhere my vehicle goes, and the last few updates I've made an effort to connect from my phone hotspot. It's a complete pain, and I'm not in a hurry to get the latest update, but seems it may never come if I don't connect to wifi?

Yes. I’ve done several via LTE without issues but it does make me nervous.

You can choose Wi-FI only in the app and if you turn that off it will do either or.

Nervous how? It takes forever to download, but you either have an uncorrupted file or you don't and the car retries. There's no difference between an LTE or WiFi update other than how fast you get the data downloaded. Once the update is ready, everything happens locally on the vehicle itself.

Yes, I understand that. But we read about updates going funky in certain people’s Rivians after every new version. I’m not a software engineer but in those cases either update itself was squirrelly or it broke something already there. Otherwise it would happen to everyone who installed that update. ??‍♂

The dozens of hardware and vendor variations are too blame there.

Great point. Whatever the reason(s) an update could cause trouble, I just don’t want it to happen to me. Obviously it could have nothing to do with Wi-FI vs. LTE??‍♂

I never used to connect to wi-fi until they started deprioritizing those who don't a few months ago. Then I started just using the hotspot on my phone for 30 min or so to trigger it.

If I'm paying for connect+, I really don't want to have to jump through hoops to get an update. We'll see how long this one takes to show up I guess - only thing I kind of want from this update is the lower dog mode temp, but doesn't really matter headed into fall/winter.

I can't find a wi-fi only option in the app? What's that under?

You know, after looking at it again I must be thinking of the “Only at Home” option when you turn on auto updates. In my brain that is why that exists so if folks don’t want LTE updates they can wait until they are home and connected to Wi-Fi. I suppose that isn’t necessarily true for all…

Cool - just wanted to make sure I didn’t have it on, but I haven’t enabled auto updates, so nothing for me to check.

I also can’t find this wifi only setting. Can you show us where to find this setting? Thanks

Codogman clarified - he was thinking of the home only setting that is available when auto updates are enabled.

Yeah, sorry - I was thinking of the “only at home” setting within the auto update menu. I just equate it with wi-fi only. I’ve taken too many hits to the head…
